It’s a busy Tuesday in the NHL with a total of nine games on tap. We’ve got a separate preview up on the New York Islanders-Chicago Blackhawks contest, which might be the game of the night, and below we have our NHL picks and previews for three other contests.
St. Louis Blues vs. Calgary Flames
Odds: Blues -125
The St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames are having no problems lighting the lamp this month, so it’s worth a bet to see if this trend continues. The Flames lead the league in goal scoring in March as they’ve averaged 4.14. As for the Blues, they are second in line with 3.00 goals per game.
As a result, the Flames have gone over 5.5 in five of their last six games. Their goaltending hasn’t been that strong as they’ve mostly been outscoring opponents. They’ve allowed 2.86 this month, which is eighth-worst in the NHL. As for the Blues, goaltender Brian Elliott has been average of late, posting a .911 save percentage in the month of March.

Minnesota Wild vs. Nashville Predators
Odds: Predators -140
I’m not sure that the Predators are out of their funk just yet as they’ve still just won twice in their last 10 games. However, the two wins did come in their last four. We’ve seen some up and down play from goaltender Pekka Rinne as he had allowed just three goals in three starts, but then coughed up four to Anaheim on Sunday.
At the same time, we’re not exactly sure if the Wild are still hot. They are 18-4-1 in their last 23 contests but are also just 2-2 in their last four. Even so, the losses were tight, one-goal losses, so I’m willing to have some faith. They’ve had Rinne’s number this season as he’s posted a 3.02 GAA against them in three meetings (although he’s won two of them). I think the Wild are worth a look here as a road dog in the NHL Odds.
NHL Pick: Wild +122 at Pinnacle
Ottawa Senators vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Odds: Senators -120
The Senators continue to be underestimated both in general and on the betting lines. This is a team that’s won three straight games and 11 of their last 13 and is making a serious push for the playoffs. They enter Tuesday only five points out of a playoff spot. Their riding some really hot goaltending as Andrew Hammond is probably the hottest goaltender in the NHL. He’s 10-0-1 with a 1.39 GAA and .955 save percentage this season and hasn’t allowed more than two goals in any outing. He’s allowed a total of 11 goals in his last nine starts.
On Tuesday, the Sens face a Hurricanes team that’s giving up 3.43 goals per game in March, which is the third-most in the NHL. The Canes have dropped five of their last seven games and are not playing particularly well right now. Take the Sens with your NHL Picks here.
