Our resident NHL handicapper provides us with free picks on both NHL games scheduled for today. Join us in reading his informative NHL analysis on each of these games.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Washington Capitals 7:35 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings have really struggled offensively, scoring 2-goals or less in 7 of their first 8-games. Their power play is a pathetic 2-for-30 (6.7%) on the season, and an anemic 0-for-18 in their last 5-games.

The Capitals have won their last 4 at home versus Detroit. Contrary to tonight’s opponent, the Caps power play has converted on a stellar 25.9% of their opportunities.

Final Analysis
Detroit enters this game with 3-days of rest, and Washington comes in on 2-days rest. This sets up a very profitable money line betting system that we can use to assist us with our NHL picks today. Any money line home favorite of -200 or less, that’s play on 2-days rest, versus an opponent playing on 3 or more days rest, has gone 128-55 (69.9%) since 1996.

Free NHL Pick: Washington -130 over Detroit at Bet365

Nashville Predators vs. Edmonton Oilers 10:05 PM ET
Nashville has seen just 1 of their 8-games this season go over the total. Their goaltender Pekka Rinne has been outstanding in his 7-starts posting a superb .932 save percentage.

After suffering through some early defensive struggles, the Oilers have settled down during this current 6-game home stand that concludes tonight. They’ve seen each of their past 4-games go under the total. After getting off to a rough start to the season, Oilers goaltender Ben Scrivens has settled in nicely in goal. He’s seen 4 of his last 5-starts go under the total, and posted an outstanding .945 save percentage in the process.

Final Analysis
The Oilers are coming off a 3-0 home win versus Montreal in their previous game. The Predators are coming off a 3-0 home loss to Pittsburgh in their last game. The sequence of those events by each team creates an outstanding NHL odds totals system in this game, and it will be a key factor in making my NHL picks for today. Any home team with a total of 5.5, coming off a home win by 3-goals or more, versus an opponent off a home loss by 3-goals or more, has seen 46 of those 63-games (73%) go under the total since 1996.

Free NHL Pick: Predators/Oilers to go under the total of 5.5. at 5Dimes
