Our expert capper has gone 3-1 the last 2-nights with his NHL picks at SBR. Today he provides us with a betting preview article with a pair of his free NHL picks of the day.

Boston Bruins vs. Detroit Red Wings 7:05 PM ET
Money Line: Boston -115
Total: 5.0

Battle Between Two of the Original Six
The Bruins have opened the season by going under the total in their first 4-games. They’ve certainly been a major contributor to those low scoring affairs. Boston has scored a total of 4-goals so far in the early going, and their 4-games have averaged a combined total of 3.3 goals. The Bruins #1 goaltender Tukka Rask is world class, and their defense pairings are one of, if not the best in the NHL.

The Detroit Red Wings have begun the season by seeing their first 2-games both stay under the total. Detroit hasn’t seen any of their last 4 home games versus the Bruins go over the total, and just 1 of the last 7 overall against Boston has surpassed the number. The Red Wings have transformed themselves into a tight checking, conservative, and outstanding defensive club during the past 2-seasons. Their offensive is derived from a very speedy transition game that takes advantage of mistakes by opponents, and as a result, they surrender very few outnumbered situations.

Final Analysis
For your NHL picks there’s no sense in overanalyzing this game. It has all the ear marks of a low scoring game due to the numerous reasons that I’ve stated in the above two paragraphs.

Free NHL Pick: Bruins/Red Wings to go under the total of 5.0

Calgary Flames vs. Chicago Blackhawks 8:05 PM ET
Money Line: Chicago -260
Puck Line: Chicago -1.5 (+110) and Calgary +1.5 (-120)
Total: 5.5

Unenviable Spot for the Flames
The Calgary Flames will be playing their 4th of a 5-game road trip, and are coming off a 3-2 arovertime shootout win at Nashville last night. Dating back to last season, they’ve now gone a very respectable 21-15 over their last 36-games. The bad news is, they’re playing one of the best teams in the NHL this evening, and having to do so with no rest, while facing a Chicago club that hasn’t played since last Saturday. The Flames were a horrible 0-6 on the road last season versus a conference opponent, following a road win in their previous game. They lost those 6-games by an average of 2.7 goals.

The Blackhawks should have no excuses tonight. They will be playing on 3-days rest versus a vastly inferior opponent who’s in the middle of a road trip. Chicago has gone an outstanding 79-32 during their last 111-games at the United Center. They’ve won 20 of their last 28 overall and 16 of the last 21 at home against Calgary. They’re coming off a 6-2 home rout of the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night, and are 2-0 start to the season.

Final Analysis
There are no locks or sure things when it comes to sports betting. However, when looking for the best edge, and what’s most likely to occur, this game all points toward a decisive win for Chicago.

Free NHL Pick: Blackhawks -1.5 (+110) over Calgary on the puck-line at 5Dimes
