After a quiet night in the NHL with just three games on the card, Thursday gets busy with eight games in action. Here’s a look at the best NHL picks from the card.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Detroit Red Wings
NHL odds: Red Wings -115
The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming off a rough outing last night against the Philadelphia Flyers. They lost 5-3 and cost bettors a pretty penny on the NHL odds (-230). However, I expect them to bounce back versus the Red Wings. The Flyers have the Pens number and have now won five of their last six visits to Pittsburgh. Other than a couple of surprising home outings, Pittsburgh has been very reliable this year. As for the Red Wings, they’ve got a couple of wins against Toronto but other than that, have looked fairly suspect.

The Pens are 24-12 in their last 36 when on the road with a total of 5.5. As for the Red Wings, they’re just 11-15 in their last 26 at home with that same total.

NHL Pick: Penguins -105

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators
NHL odds: Blackhawks -120
Heading into Thursday, the Blackhawks and the Predators are among the league leaders in goals against per game. The Chicago Blackhawks have allowed just seven goals in five games so far this season while the Predators have allowed just 11 in six contests. That means both teams are giving up less than two goals per game. Even with that being the case, we see a total of 5.5 on the board instead of a flat 5 and that leads me to believe there’s some value with the under. Six of the last nine in this series have gone under the number.

NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at The Greek

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. San Jose Sharks
NHL odds: Sharks -175
The San Jose Sharks had a rough time at the end of their five-game road trip but they are a different team back at the Shark Tank. Having a night off should also help. They played the entire five-game road trip in just eight days.

On Thursday, they’ll host the Blue Jackets and I like this game to go under the number. The Sharks have yet to allow a goal at home this season (although they’ve only played one game at home) while Columbus has done less scoring on the road (2.5 goals per game) compared to at home (3.33). I expect the Sharks goaltending to get back on track and this game to be low scoring. Go under the number here for your NHL picks.

NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at Bodog
