After a busy Saturday with 12 games on the ice, the NHL tapers off with just five on Sunday. We’ve got NHL picks on four of the games with the Edmonton Oilers-New York Rangers previewed in its own article and three more picks below.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings ended their three-game losing streak in their latest outing (a 4-2 home win over the New Jersey Devils) but they’re simply laying too much in this spot. Tampa Bay will be in a back-to-back situation after playing in Columbus on Saturday night but this is still too big of a line. After all, we’re talking about a Red Wings team that has losses to the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres in their last four games. Tampa Bay is one of the top teams in the conference and this should be an even game, even though the odds don’t reflect that. There’s no question that Tampa Bay weaker on the road than they are at home but they’re on a roll right now. This is too much value on NHL odds to pass up in this spot.

NHL Pick: Lighting +165 at The Greek

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators
This is going to be a tight spot for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who played on Saturday night at home against the New York Rangers and also played on the road in Colorado on Thursday. That means it’s not only a back-to-back situation but their third game in four nights in a third different city.

The Sens have been solid at home this season and their defense has been particularly strong. I expect them to edge their Ontario rivals but the better play in this game is the total. Entering Saturday, the Sens had given up just 2.17 goals per game at home, which is the seventh-best number in the NHL. Look for their defensive style of play to dictate the pace and keep this a low-scoring affair.

NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at Bovada

San Jose Sharks vs. Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks are supposed to be two of the top teams in the Western Conference but they haven’t looked anything like that of late. The Blackhawks enter Sunday’s meeting as losers of six of nine. Meanwhile, the Sharks are hovering around the .500-mark.

The Sharks offer good value on the lines as the Blackhawks shouldn’t be laying -180 considering how they’re playing these days but the issue is that the Sharks are not only in a back-to-back after playing in Dallas last night, it’s also their third game in four nights. Because of that travel, it’s hard to trust them – especially since they are outside their time zone.

The better play in this spot is the under. The Blackhawks have topped the five-goal mark just once in their last 11. With a total of 5.5, the best play here is the under for your NHL picks.

NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at Bodog
