Saturday is the final day of NHL action before the 2014 Winter Olympics freeze. After the games, a large chunk of the NHL’s elite players will start flying over to Sochi, Russia to get ready for the Olympic tournament.
For now, we’ll focus on the Saturday games and see if there’s any value on the NHL lines:
Montreal Canadiens vs. Carolina Hurricanes
I’m going to add the under to my NHL picks in this one as both teams have been getting good goaltending. The Habs have tightened things up recently as they’ve allowed just seven goals in their last six games. As for the Hurricanes, they’ve been very stingy with Anton Khudobin in net as he’s posted a 2.15 GAA and a .927 save percentage this season. He’s allowed just four goals in his last three outings.
These two teams played to a 3-0 result in Montreal a couple of Tuesdays ago and I expect another under here.
NHL Pick: Under 5 at Bodog
The Canucks continue to be absolutely miserable as they enter Saturday’s game on a six-game losing streak. The Canucks have now dropped 15 of their last 19 and have performed like one of the worst teams in the NHL over the last month. Saturday’s game will be their final stop of a six-game road trip and they could be out of gas. It’ll be their fourth game in six nights.
As for Toronto, they’ve won 10 of 13 and should be the clear choice for your sports picks. 13.
NHL Pick: Maple Leafs -140 at Pinnacle
Detroit Red Wings vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning have struggled recently and that’s going to lead me to take a shot with the Red Wings on the NHL odds. Tampa Bay has lost four of five overall and six of their last eight at home. As for Detroit, they’ve won two straight and three of four. Momentum seems to be in their favor, so I’ll go with them in this one.
NHL Pick: Red Wings +130 at Bookmaker
