Our sports handicapping professional provides us with a NHL betting preview article that analyzes his two top picks of the day. Find out who his NHL picks are in the games between Columbus/Carolina and Edmonton/Buffalo.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Carolina Hurricanes 7:05 PM ET
NHL Total: The NHL odds at Pinnacle have over 5.5 (+104) and the under 5.5 (-115).
The Carolina Hurricanes have won their last 3-games in a row, and they scored 3-goals or more in each of those victories. Despite the recent goal scoring surge, Carolina is still averaging just 2.3 goals per game. This data fits nicely into a betting system that we can take advantage of for one of tonight’s NHL picks.

Any home team with a total of 5.5 that averages 2.4 or less goals per game, and they’ve scored 3-goals or more in each of their previous 3-games, has seen 27 of those 35-games (77.1%) stay under the total since 1996.

Free NHL Picks: Columbus/Carolina to go under the total of 5.5 at Pinnacle

Edmonton Oilers vs. Buffalo Sabres 7:05 PM ET
NHL Moneyline: The NHL odds from 5Dimes have Edmonton -130 and Buffalo +120.
The Oilers enter today’s game with a moneyline winning percentage of .308. They find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference standings entering today. Their losing streak was extended to 4-games following last night’s 5-2 defeat at Boston. The Oilers have gone a pathetic 13-43 versus the moneyline in their last 56-games when playing with no rest.

The Sabres are off to a miserable 3-14 moneyline start, and that equates to a horrible .214 win percentage. They’re currently tied for last place in the Eastern Conference standings. However, the Sabres have gone 7-1 in their last 8 at home versus the Oilers.

Any moneyline home underdog (Sabres) of +180 or less which is playing in the 1st half of the season, that has a winning percentage of .300 or less, versus an opponent coming off 1 or more losses in a row, and they have a winning percentage of  .300 to .400, has gone 32-13 (71.1%) since 1996.

Free NHL Picks: Buffalo +120 over Edmonton at 5Dimes
