The Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Kings collide today all while both look to return to winning ways. Something is going to have to give. Here we breakdown this matchup and serve up NHL picks.

Montreal Canadiens (30-28-6)
6th Atlantic Division
Montreal Canadiens are coming off back-to-back losses that has them slipping to a woeful 4-4-2 record in their last ten games. Most galling of all is they’ve lost six of their last nine games. To say they are under the cosh is to put it mildly, six points adrift of the nearest wildcard spot their playoff hopes are fading fast.

The Canadiens are desperate to get back on the winning track and stop this recent spate of poor results. Unfortunately, the schedule isn’t kind to them, lining up the top three Pacific division sides in a row, two of which they are back-to-back.

On Monday, the Canadiens took on the San Jose Sharks and were decimated 6-2. Last night, they lost to the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in a shootout. Now, in their second game in as many nights, they take on top of the Pacific table Los Angeles Kings. Is it any wonder they are trading as the whopping road underdogs anywhere from +205 (Pinnacle) to +215 (bet365) to win outright on the NHL betting floor?

Los Angeles Kings (37-21-4)
1st Pacific Division
Los Angeles Kings are coming off a 4-2 loss to divisional rivals Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, a loss that has them slipping to a 5-4-1 record in their last ten games. However, this run of form coincides with a rather brutal schedule that includes seven road games. In fact, nine of their 13 games in the month of February were on the road, including their last account against Anaheim.

Tonight the Kings are set to welcome the Canadiens at the Staples Center where they’ve won three straight ahead of this clash (3-1 in February). They defeated Calgary 2-1, Edmonton 2-1 and Buffalo 2-0. Overall, they are a solid 18-10-1 at home this season and have won seven of their 12 home games since the New Year. Predictably, the Kings are trading as the significant home favorites on the NHL odds board with NHL odds ranging from -230 (Pinnacle) to -260 (BetCRIS). The Kings are also installed as the 1.5-point faves on the puck line.

NHL Betting Verdict
The Montreal Canadiens come into this game sporting poor form in their last ten games, not to mention back-to-back losses to two of the top three Pacific Division sides, Sharks and Ducks. It doesn’t help their cause that they have ZERO rest between yesterday’s clash with the Ducks and today’s date with the Kings. It really would take a ballsy hockey bettor to back the Canadiens with any confidence in this game as the severe road underdogs.

The Kings haven’t exactly been a model of consistency in their last ten games either, but we can chalk it up to a tough schedule. Where they have the advantage over the Canadiens is the four days’ rest since their last outing. That gives the Kings a considerable edge over and above home advantage where they’ve won their last three games.

Another thing that could prove a catalyst for the Kings is the fact that the Ducks have closed the gap in the table and are now level on 78 points with the Kings following their win over the Canadiens last night. The Kings will be looking to pull ahead in the division, surely. And with taxed Canadiens side exhausted by their exertions last night the Kings do have a good chance to come through as the deserved favorites to win. What’s more, this could turn into a blowout which has us leaning towards the Kings on the puck line as well with our NHL picks.
