See my writeup and preview of two fantastic teams facing off - Stars vs. Wild. I make my NHL pick inside and give you a detailed look at some some things to watch out for.

Dallas Stars vs. Minnesota Wild
Even if Zach Parise and Thomas Vanek were playing there would be a huge discrepancy in talent with a quick glance at the rosters even with Tyler Seguin sidelined. The contributions the Wild are getting from Mikael Granlund (2 pts/last 2 games), Jason Pominville (6/3), Nino Niederreiter (4pts/3 last 3), and Mikko Koivu who had only one point through the first four games had the game tying goal and the game winner in game five.

Interesting about Pominville who had only 36 points in 7 games but in the playoffs he now has six points in five games against one of the top teams in the West. We said it many times how depth overcomes talent and that holds true in both Wild victories.

Outside of game one the two other Wild losses have been one goal losses with the Wild scoring five goals in each win. In game five the Wild clawed closer to the Stars without the benefit of a power play attempt while shutting down both Dallas' power play opportunities.

Kari Lehtonen will get the start in place of Antti Niemi who has been not good enough to put the Wild away. In game five Niemi gave up five goals on just 24 shots faced.

The Stars outshot the Wild 41-24 in game five but the Wild seemed to have the better of the scoring chances. However, there comes a time when that many shots will start going in. I know people that don't put too much stock in shots on goal but I'd rather be the team with the 41 then without.

From a trend perspective the Stars are still 12-4 in their last 16 games while I'm still not sold this we can consistently back the Wild. Let's not forget that the Wild have lost 8 of 10 overall.

Two clear trends to support the 'over' come from the Dallas side as the 'over' has cashed in 16 of the last 25 road games with two 'pushes' and the 'over' is 15-5-1 in the Stars last 21 games against the Central. The 'over' in the series is 7-3 in the last 10 head to head and 5-0-1 in the last six match-ups in Minnesota.

Betting Analysis
We are going to ride the Wild momentum into the first period of this one at the plus price of +108. In game five it was clear that John Torchetti had his squad ready for a fight. There is no doubt that when we talk about coach of the year candidates that Torchetti should be mentioned in the discussion even with his small body of work.

Even though Minnesota deserves a tremendous amount of credit for hanging in with the Stars I don't think there will any panic with Lindy Ruff's team. I expect as this game moves on that the Stars talent will shine through so let's take the Stars to win as our NHL pick at a generous -130 on the NHL odds. @DanaLaneSports
