NY Islanders vs. Tampa Bay Lightning 3:05 PM ET
The Islanders and Lightning will play Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series on Saturday afternoon at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Current NHL betting odds at BetOnline indicates that Tampa Bay is a -155 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. These teams have now met four times this season, and the Islanders won on three of those occasions. Those encounters also have gone 3-0-1 over the total, and there’s been an average of an average of 7.7 goals scored per game.

Game 1 Betting Recap
The Islanders jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two periods during the series opener. Tampa Bay mounted a rally with two third period unanswered tallies that cut the margin to 4-3, and then allowed an empty net goal resulting in a final score of 5-3. Despite the loss, Tampa Bay held a decisive 36-22 shots on goal advantage. The Islanders displayed why they’re one of the most disciplined teams in hockey, allowing Tampa Bay just two power play chances, and killing off both of those opportunities. As a matter of fact, the Islanders have allowed opponents only 17 power play chances in seven games during these 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and they allowed just 2 power play goals against them. Contrarily, the Islanders were 1-4 when afforded a man advantage situation in Game 1.

Ben Bishop continued his terrible play in goal versus the Islanders this season on Wednesday. Bishop was pulled from the game after two periods as a result of allowing 4 goals on just 13 shots on net. Bishop has started all four games versus the Islanders this season, compiling a brutal .820 save percentage, and surrendered 16 goals during 11 periods of action. Thomas Greiss was once again sharp for the Islanders in goal, stopping 33 of 36 Tampa Bay shots on net. Greiss is now 5-2 in seven postseason starts in 2016, and has a stellar .941 save percentage during those outings.

Final Take and Pick
Tampa Bay can take solace in knowing they’ve gone 6-1 during its last seven games following a loss. The Islanders enter today on a three game win streak, and they’re 3-8 this season following three or more wins in a row. The Lightning can ill afford to go down 2-0 at home in this series. I look for Tampa Bay to play with a higher degree of urgency and desperation on Saturday, compared to what the Islanders will exhibit. I’ll side with the home favorite for one of my Saturday NHL pick.
