The Sens have been slumping and the Canucks have been rolling. We'll bet on the medium-sized road favorite on the NHL betting lines for this affair on Sunday.
The Vancouver Canucks Can Win Because…
The Senators are an absolute mess right now. The Sens lost 3-2 in Pittsburgh on Saturday, which now makes it five straight losses for them. They’ve been a complete failure of sorts over the last month as they’ve now dropped 11 of their last 14 games. Remember that 7-3-2 start? Yeah, nobody else does either. This team is sinking…and fast. The biggest issue has been goaltending as the Sens allowed just 2.33 goals per game on October, which put them among the 10 best teams in the league. However, they allowed 2.86 goals per game in November, which dropped them to ninth-worst and they’re not much better so far in December. Ottawa has allowed at least three goals in a game 11 times in their last 13, which is horrible. This is team that’s built on defense and they’re not going to be winning many games if they keep that up.
On the flip side, the Canucks are on a bit of a roll. They had won five of six entering Saturday’s action and should feel pretty good about their chances for Sunday’s affair. Although they’re doing the Ontario two-step, they get to face a Sens team that is just crumbling these days, so they should be able to take advantage. Take Vancouver with your NHL picks.
The Ottawa Senators Can Win Because…
Ryan Miller does not play great against the Sens. For his career, he’s just 17-19-4 with a 2.61 goals-against average. That’s mediocre.
There’s a good chance the Sens catch the Canucks sleeping in this one as Vancouver has had a hectic schedule the last couple of days. They’ll be in Toronto on Saturday night playing in a primetime, nationally televised game. Then they have a quick turnaround and head to Ottawa with no rest. For the Canucks, this will be their sixth game of their seven-game road trip and they might be a bit worn down. Sunday will also be their third game in four nights and their fourth in six.
Lastly, if Craig Anderson is in net, it’s worth noting that he’s been far better at home than away this season. At home, he’s posted stellar numbers with a 1.79 GAA and .945 save percentage. Even if the Sens are struggling, he should give his team a chance to win.
This is a tight spot to make a pick as the Canucks have had a lot of road action recently and could be fatigued. However, the Sens are struggling in the worst way right now and have no answers. That being the case, I’ll lay the juice with the Canucks on the road. It’s not a huge play but they should win this game.
