We’ll be examining Saturday night’s NHL game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. Take the time to read our revealing NHL betting article which surely will point you in the right direction pertaining to this contest.

Metropolitan Division Clash at the Consol Energy Center
The Pittsburgh Penguins will host the Washington Capitals on Saturday with the opening faceoff scheduled for 7:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the Penguins are a -165 money line favorite and the posted total in 5.5. This will be the first meeting of the season between these Metropolitan Division rivals. Pittsburgh won all four encounters versus Washington a season ago, and has won eight straight in their head-to-head series with the Capitals.

Enjoying their Time on the Road
Despite come off a 4-2 road loss to the New York Rangers in the previous outing, the Washington Capitals have gone a more than respectable 10-8 against the money line in away games to start the year. As a matter of fact, they’ve gone a terrific 7-1 this season on the road following a road tilt in their previous game. Tonight’s slated starting goaltender for the Capitals is Braden Holtby. The Capitals are 10-5 on the road this season when Holtby is their starting goaltender. Washington will be facing an opponent (Pittsburgh) tonight that averages 3.2 goals per game. They’ve seen 8 of their 9-games this season go over the total when facing an opponent that averages 3.0 or more goals per contest.

Winning never gets old for the Pens
The Pittsburgh Penguins are 22-12 versus the money line this season, and find themselves atop the Eastern Conference standings with 49-points. However, they’re coming off road losses in each of their previous 2-games by identical 4-3 scores at Florida and Tampa Bay. The good news is they’re back at home where they’ve gone 13-5 versus the money line, and that includes winning the last 5 in a row. Pittsburgh has also gone a terrific 22-5 the last 2-seasons after playing each of their previous 2-games on the road.

Final Analysis
It’s hard to ignore the Penguins domination over the Capitals in recent years, but that’s exactly what I’m going to do. The Penguins will be playing with 3-days of rest tonight, and they’ve gone a dismal 4-9 during the past 2-seasons when playing on 3 or more days of rest. Despite their stellar start to the season, the Penguins have gone just 5-7 when facing an opponent from within their own division. On the other hand, Washington has been a profitable 8-4 versus division opponents to start the year. I’m going to take a calculated risk on this game tonight, and will side with the money line underdog as one of my NHL picks for  Saturday.
