The Redwings take on the Flyers who are right behind Detroit for the last wild card spot in the East. See who will reign supreme in tonight's NHL picks.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Detroit Redwings 'over' 5
As of late this series has been very profitable for NHL odds 'over' bettors with five of the last seven meetings going over the total. We think we're looking at another as the Flyers have been consistent at home scoring 22 goals over their last seven home games. Their power play has been a big asset to them in their last eight games as they are hitting at a 25% clip (8-32). Although Detroit penalty kill has had recent success they are still on a streak that has seen them give up six goals in their last 20 PK attempts.

The Flyers are just three points behind the Wings for the final playoff spot in the East and with a win you would have to say that Philadelphia is likely to catch them since it would be a loss coupled with the Wings 1-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs who are considered the worst team in the league.

From a Detroit perspective you should expect an inspired effort from Jeff Blashill's team. They know their season could spiral out of control with a loss. They also have to figure out how to stop a 10 game road losing streak to the Flyers in which they've been outscored 44-17. Pavel Datsyuk may be the key to Detroit finding some offensive flow. Datsyuk has seven goals and five assist in his last eight games against Philadelphia.

This may be an opportunity for Claude Giroux, who has only one goal in his last four games, to find the back of the net. Giroux has five goals and nine assist in an eight game point streak against Philadelphia while Wayne Simmons has five points in his last three meetings against the Wings.

I'm curious to see how Flyers goaltender, Steve Mason, rebounds from allowing four goals on 29 shots against the Florida Panthers, Saturday. Although this was the only game in which Mason has allowed three goals or more in his last four starts I have never been a strong supporter of the seventh year veteran. His goals against at 2.60 is more than you want from a starting netminder. Mason hasn't always stayed focused and he must not let poor play in front of him effect his efforts.

Betting Analysis
Defensively both teams have key D-men out. Detroit Nicklas Kronwall will miss 1-3 weeks with a sprained knee. Kronwell is arguably their best defensemen while Philadelphia has been without Michael Del Zotto who could be their second best defensemen.

Future odds on both teams are juicy if you'd like to take a shot. Philadelphia is currently at 55/1 while the Redwings are sitting at 28/1. You may want to wait for the outcome of this one because if the Flyers get a victory here they have some space between them and the Wings.

We'd like the Wings to bounce back offensively tonight, but we're going with 'over' for today's NHL picks instead. @DanaLaneSports
