The Bruins are on to their second game against a division leader as they face the Capitals who have started to show some cracks in their game. Check out who my NHL pick is for today.

Washington Capitals vs Boston Bruins
The Bruins are coming off an impressive victory over the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday. Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand had a goal and assist each to lift Boston to a 4-2 victory, their fifth in seven games.

Boston may be getting the Capitals at the right time. Washington lost Friday against the Rangers and then have to fly to Boston with Philipp Grubauer most likely in net for the Caps.

I've written it before, I'm a big fan of the acquisition of Lee Stepniak and John-Michael Liles. Stepniak has been put right in the first line with Bergeron and Marchand which enables Boston to move Brett Connolly to the third or fourth lines. The moves make them stronger all around.

Liles is the best puck handling defensemen the Bruins have now which gives them an added dimension.

I've said it over and over, you are likely to start seeing cracks in the potential President Cup winners with about 20 games to go. Reason is, they already are starting to feel a sense of accomplishment while facing opponents that are hungry to make the playoffs. It's not a secret that Washington is a team that appears to be going through the motions at this point. It continued against the Rangers last night as they played an unemotional 1st period leading to the loss.

Against Toronto, on Thursday, the Caps need a power play goal with 10:29 left in the third period from Matt Niskanen to beat the worst team in the league. This, the night after they had to climb back from a 2-0 hole against Pittsburgh to claim a 3-2 win. Another late third period goal from T.J. Oshie was the game winner.

Betting Analysis
As mentioned, the Capitals dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Rangers on Friday. Another game in which they got down 2-0 and had to claw their way back to tie the game but this time Derek Stepan scored 17 seconds into the third to seal the victory for the Rangers. Antti Raanta made 32 saves in the victory in the 3-2 victory.

Washington has now played in nine straight one goal games, winning six of them. As we talked about in our post All-Star game video, stay away from the Caps or certainly stay away from them on the NHL odds boards. This advice is starting to pay off as you now should have won nine straight going against the Caps on the puck line.

I think most teams are starting to figure out that if you keep the Caps off the power play you have a chance to be close at the end. Washington has converted 23.9% of their power play opportunities and has scored one in each of the last four games.

The trends are with Boston. Against the Metropolitan Division the Bruins have had a tremendous amount of success supporting a 44-18 record.

The Bruins are extremely well conditioned which is evident by their 12-3 record in their last 15 games.

We're backing the Bruins here as our NHL pick. @DanaLaneSports
