With just four games on the docket, when reviewing the NHL betting odds, it is merely a process of elimination to come up with three choices with three weeks remaining in regular season.

Decided Los Angeles and Nashville was too close to call and the NHL odds boards say the same thing with the Predators only a -100 home favorite. I will be the first to admit choosing Calgary versus Toronto could leave me open to readers wanting to know what I am thinking since it is such a rotten game with two horrible teams and one I would pass on 99 percent of the time.

While that game selection might almost be as crazy as taking Texas A&M to win the their game in live betting when down 12 points with 44 seconds left in regulation (OK, nothing is that nuts), it just seems the lesser of evils for NHL picks. Time to go after a fourth consecutive winning day.

Rangers Earn Much Need Victory
The New York Rangers (40-32 SU) have been caught by a sizzling Pittsburgh club and is in danger of not hosting a first round playoff series, having lost two straight and four of five. With home games with Florida (40-32 SU) and Boston to start the week, the Rangers have to regroup and do so in a hurry. One aspect New York needs to fix immediately is the penalty killing, which has become a real eyesore, having slipped all the way to 28th in the league at 77.3 percent. Giving up easy goals is a killer this time of year.

The Panthers hold a tenuous two-point lead the Atlantic Division and would appear to be catching New York at the right time, but they are 1-7 in recent contests with the Rangers and goalie Roberto Luongo's 3.67 goals-against average in a dozen regular season games at Madison Square Garden is his worst in any building he has started in at least three times. As -135 home favorites, the Blueshirts should pull this one out.

Philly Fails Again Against the Islanders
Philadelphia (34-36 SU) might have lost 4-1 to Pittsburgh Saturday, but that is hardly a disgrace as hot as the Penguins are and the Flyers have still won eight of 11 and are only three points behind Detroit for final wild card spot.

Before that loss, the Philadelphia offense had been in high gear, averaging sensational 3.6 goals a game in assembling 10-2-2 record to bring them back into contention. The Flyers are in position to pick up two points as visitors again the New York Islanders (38-32 SU) whose offense has gone dormant, with 10 goals in the last six games.

While it would seem the Isles are not in a good situation with recent play, they have won four in a row at home over the Flyers and coming off two bad road losses and they are 11-2 after two straight losses by two goals or more and 16-3 after playing three consecutive away contests.

Toronto Tops Calgary
With all the attention focused on the Stanley Cup playoff contenders, those at the bottom of the barrel receive little attention. While Calgary (31-41 SU) and Toronto (25-46 SU) are not deserving of attracting many eyeballs, they have each won four of their last six and deserve credit for not being like a baseball team and completely tanking.

Decided to use the Maple Leafs for a play because of the goaltender matchup. Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier is 4-1 with a 1.60 GAA in five matchups with Calgary, while the Flames Jonas Hiller is 2-5-0 with a 3.91 GAA in seven lifetime starts against Toronto.

Another factor is the troubles Calgary has had at either the Air Canada Centre or the old Maple Leaf Gardens, with just three win in past 20 visits to either building. Backing Toronto at -130 is not a great feeling, but the right one today.
