Can the Montreal Canadiens match up to the Los Angeles Kings or will they simply be blown away? Let's check in with our handicapper and his point of view regarding the NHL odds for our sports picks.

Only one point separates the Montreal Canadiens (75) and Los Angeles Kings (74) but both are in very different shape when it comes to the playoffs. The Habs are in a comfortable spot, sitting second in their division and third in the conference while the Kings would be the sixth-seed in the West. This will be the marquee game on the Monday card.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…

They’re on a roll. They have won five of their last six games and their offense has been on fire. They’ve scored 22 goals in those six contest, which is astronomical for a team like Montreal. They know that they’re without goaltender Carey Price and that they need to do more on the offensive end.

We’re not entirely sure what to make of the Kings right now. Sure, they’ve won four straight but prior to that, played a stretch where they were arguably the worst team in the NHL (lost nine of 10). Do you really trust them with your sports picks enough to lay this type of juice?

The Los Angeles Kings Can Win Because….

They’ve got some momentum on their side. The Kings have won four straight games and are finally playing like the Stanley Cup contender most people thought they could be. Their defense and goaltending has been strong all along but their offense has been weak – at best. Prior to the Olympic break, the Kings had scored just eight goals in their last eight games. Coming out of it, they’ve scored 11 goals in three games. When they can get to three goals or more, they are going to be hard to stop.

On Monday, they’ll have a big edge on the Canadiens, who are still without goaltender Carey Price. Take the Kings in this spot with your NHL picks.

Outlook & Pick

The Kings probably win this game but I’m not going to lay -160 with them. Instead, I’ll take the under on the NHL odds board. The Habs offense has done surprisingly well in their last couple of games but Jonathan Quick and company should be able to slow them down in this one. The Kings allow just 2.06 goals per game at home, which is sixth best in the NHL.
