The Montreal Canadiens will be a big road dog when they visit the Boston Bruins on Thursday night in a game that will be featured on NHL Network. Can they surprise their Original Six rivals and cash-in on the NHL odds?

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…

There’s a good chance they face Chad Johnson. That should be a reprieve.

The Bruins have been alternating Tuukka Rask and the backup, Johnson, in the last seven games and if they hold steady to their pattern, it would be Johnson’s turn. Even though his numbers look good (9-3-0, 2.30 GAA), he’s still not the Vezina Trophy candidate that Rask is and that could give the Habs the opening they need.

The Boston Bruins Can Win Because….

They’re playing great right now and the Habs are not. The Bruins have won four straight while scoring a whopping 18 goals in their last three games. Given the way the Bruins play defense, it’s unlikely anyone stops them en route to the Stanley Cup if they’re going to play offense like this.

As for the Habs, they’re coming off a win but that’s their first in five games. They’ve really been sinking since starting the season 19-9-3 and haven’t been a great choice for your sports picks. They have dropped 13 of their last 22 games.

Outlook & Pick

The Habs aren’t scoring much these days with just five goals in their last four games. Their goaltending has been subpar as well as they’ve allowed 27 goals in their last seven and that includes a shutout in their latest game. The Habs have lost four of five on the road and all of those losses were by two goals or more.

Take the Bruins on the puckline with your NHL picks. They’re the better choice here.
