The Blackhawks host the Calgary Flames on Monday. I'll tell you why it's more important for you to shop for the best NHL odds in this one, than any other game this year.

2016-17 NHL Selection Record:9-5 .643 +5.97

It was bound to happen.

The great start came to an abrupt end yesterday as we dropped both of our plays but the best part is we played small and we played with house money. So now that we've had a losing day, it's a great time to give you the next lesson about chasing losses. The point is simple when you're ahead or any other time for that matter, there is no reason to chase bets as many of us do.

Tonight only offers a couple games and they both offer lines that I would normally stay away from because they're not under our preferred -150, but for the sake of giving you at least one game a day let's take the lesser of two evils even though the price is higher.

Calgary Flames vs Chicago Blackhawks

For my NHL pick I jumped on the Chicago Blackhawks at -161 at Bookmaker, now offering 50% free play bonus, but the prevailing number across the board seems to be around -165 at most books. Like we always say it's important to shop around because there are also -170's out there and we'd prefer to not go that high. It's my recommendation to jump on this game now because the general public has pounded Chicago. The only reason why this line hasn't gone up is because large money has pushed it down from its opening line of -177.  'Wise guy" money comes in early so don't anticipate the line falling any further.

I think it's safe to say that the Blackhawks are still trying to find a rhythm to their season but it's nothing compared to the problems that first-year head coach, Glen Gulutzan, has had to endear as the Calgary Flames have found the win column just once in six games.

The simplistic view of Chicago is this is a game that they must win. Chicago would be in a much better place if it could kill a few more penalties as they've allowed 11 power play goals thru six games.

As we look into specific match-ups this seems like a game custom built for what ails the 'Hawks. Calgary has allowed 4.3 goals per game (29th) while owning the league's worst power play which has connected on just one of 25 chances. Considering Chicago's talent doesn't dominate teams like they used to it's important for them to win the special teams battle.
