Before betting on the Bruins vs. Wild, we invite you to join us in reading our preview article on this affair which includes a terrific 61-24 NHL betting angle dating back to 1996.

Bruins in the “Great White North”
The Wild will host the Boston Bruins tonight at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota with an opening faceoff time of 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the Wild is a -140 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. The Wild won the only other meeting between these teams this season in a 4-3 road win at the TD Garden in Boston on October 28th. These clubs split their two encounters a season ago with each winning on home ice.

Slumping and Staggering
The Boston Bruins were expected to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference this season. When it’s all said and done, they very well may be, but as of now it appears to be a gross miscalculation by the experts. The Bruins are coming off a 3-2 overtime shootout loss at Nashville last night. They’ve now lost the last 3, 6 of the last 7, and 8 of their last 10 overall. Boston has also uncharacteristically allowed 18-goals over their previous 5-games. The Bruins have seen just 4 of their 14-games (28.6%) on the road go under the total. Niklas Svedeberg will get the start in goal tonight. The Bruins backup goaltender has performed admirably in 7 starts this season with a .922 save percentage, and has posted one shutout.

Up and Down Stretch
The Minnesota Wild enters tonight’s game having gone a lackluster 5-6 against the money line in their previous 11-games. One area of concern for tonight will be Minnesota’s goaltending situation. Both of their top two goaltenders Darcy Kuemper and Niklas Backstrom are listed as questionable due to flu like symptoms. They’re listing 30-year old John Curry as their probable starter in goal tonight. The native of Shorewood, Minnesota would be making only his 5th career NHL start. In 6 career NHL appearances with both Minnesota and Pittsburgh, Curry has posted a lofty 3.55 GAA. Minnesota has seen 4 of their previous 5-games go over the total. Similar to tonight’s opponent (Boston), the Wild have uncharacteristically allowed 19-goals over those previous 5-games.

NHL Totals Betting System
The Bruins enter tonight having lost 6 of their previous 7-games, and have a winning percentage of .484 this season. These two factors in addition to this game being in the 1st half of the season, provides us with a betting system that has more than passed the test of time, and will be crucial in making one of my NHL picks for today.

Any road team (Boston) with a NHL betting odds total of 5.0 or less on who’s playing in the 1st half of the season, coming off 5 or 6 losses in their previous 7-games, and has a winning percentage of .450 to .550, has seen that road team go over the total in 61 of those 85-games (71.8%) since 1996.

Free NHL Pick: Bruins/Wild to go over the total of 5.0
