Minnesota Wild (10-3-3 SU, 6-10 PL, 8-6-2 OU) vs Pittsburgh Penguins (10-7-0 SU, 5-12 PL, 3-11-3 OU)
The Line: -135
Total: 5

Minnesota Suffers Tough OT Road Loss To Dallas
The Minnesota Wild have had a good year so far as they are 10-6 overall, but they have struggled on the road, where they are just 3-5 on the year. The road was the site of their last game as they took on the Stars in a big early season matchup of these Western Conference foes. The Wild trailed for much of the game before a goal by Marco Scandella tied the game at two with 12:45 left in regulation. It stayed that way until John Klingberg scored the game winner for Dallas with just 1:42 left in OT.

For Scandella it was his 3rd goal of the year, while also scoring for Minnesota was Nino Niederreiter, which was his 6th of the season. Taking the loss in goal was Devan Dubnyk, who still had 33 saves in the game. Dubnyk is now 10-5 with a 2.44 GAA on the year and he is 2-2 with a 2.94 GAA vs Pittsburgh in his career. Minnesota checks in at 6th in the league in scoring at 3.0 gpg and 19th in power play conversions (17.9%), while on defense they are 19th in goals allowed (1.7 gpg) and 25th in penalty kill (75.7%).

Penguins are Struggling On Offense Again
The Pittsburgh Penguins have had scoring issues for most of the year, but it looked like they were turning the corner as they had scored 21 goals over a seven game period, but now the struggles on offense are rearing its ugly head once again. On Friday night Pittsburgh took on Columbus at home and scored just one goal in the 2-1 loss and then they followed that up the next night by getting shutout 4-0 at New Jersey.

Pittsburgh has now been shutout twice and they have scored two goals or less in 11 games this year. The Penguins rank 27th in the league in scoring at 2.1 gpg and they are also 29th in the league in power play conversions, converting just 12.3% of their chances. On defense they have been solid, as they rank 4th in the league in goals allowed (2.2 gpg) and 6th in penalty kill (85.7%). Marc-Andre Fleury has been the reason for most of that as he is 8-6 with a 2.01 GAA on the year, but he is 1-5 with a 3.43 GAA in his career vs Minnesota.

Trends for Minnesota:
The Under is 6-1-5 in their last 12 vs. Eastern Conference

The Under is 2-0-3 in their last five vs. Metropolitan

Trends for Pittsburgh:
The Under is 38-13-3 in their last 54 after scoring two goals or less in their previous game

The Under is 10-2-3 in their last 15 home games

This game has the feel of a tight defensive battle, and NHL odds show as much. Pittsburgh is having scoring woes again and Devan Dubnyk has what it takes to keep that offense under wraps. Marc-Andre Fleury has been very good for the Penguins, especially home where he has a solid 2.15 GAA and the Wild have struggled to score on the road this year. Pittsburgh’s home games are usually low scoring and this one should be no different. Hence, for our NHL picks we are taking the under here.
