The Minnesota Wild are in a solid playoff position with an outside chance to catch the Nashville Predators in the Central. Get a sneak peak & free NHL pick inside.

Ottawa Senators vs. Minnesota Wild
This is a great time of year to get some plus money with teams that are going to the playoffs against teams that are going through the motions. You may get teams talking about playing hard with ten games left but once we start getting into the five game mark that's when we can take some shots with puck line favorites. You will still see quality efforts at home from teams on the outside of the playoffs but when they have to go on the road there isn't that desire to put on a good show for the hometown fans factor.

I still have the Minnesota Wild as just outside my top ten but there is no denying the unreal turnaround that occurred when John Torchetti took over for Mike Yeo before the Stadium Series game. Since they are 15-6-1 and playing their best hockey of the season. They will face the Ottawa Senators who are ranked 19th. The Wild are seeking a seventh straight victory to perhaps lengthen their five point cushion over the Colorado Avalanche for the last wild card spot. They should be still focused on catching the Nashville Predators because surpassing them is the difference between a series with Dallas or one with the Ducks. I know everyone is on Anaheim's bandwagon but I'd much rather prefer a first round series against them. So they have plenty to play for tonight.

This resurgence isn't new for the Wild, remember last season they finished 28-9-3 over their last 40 games and 23-10-7 in their last 40 in the 3013-2014 season under Yeo.

Minnesota has outscored their opponents 14-3 over their last three games and here's the kicker that I always harp on, their special teams have been stellar. They are 27 for 28 on the penalty kill over their last 11 games and and have converted on 24% of their power play opportunities since the coaching change. If that played out all season that would rank the Wild number one in the league.

Torchetti uses the word trust when talking about his team. His words seem to indicate that Yeo may have been a bit of a micro manager and wanted control instead of trusting his team. Trust means teams will play faster according to Torchetti, makes sense because if they are too worried about playing a perfect system it slows players down because they are not allowing their natural ability to take over.

Betting Analysis
From a trend perspective the Ottawa Senators have never been a solid road play after dropping 20 of their last 28.

There are some teams that you can't trust when playing a team they may not get up for but the Wild have been safe in this situation winning 10 of their last 14 against teams with a losing record.

This is a good spot to lay the -1.5 on the NHL odds with the Wild team as your NHL pick that is gearing up for a solid playoff run.
