We’ll be examining tonight’s intense NHL rivalry game between Pittsburgh & Washington. Be sure to read our insightful NHL betting preview on this contest that culminates with a money line pick.

Bitter NHL Rivalry Game
A couple of fierce Metropolitan Division rivals will clash on Wednesday when the Washington Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins. The opening puck drop is slated for 8:05 PM ET, and the game will be televised by the NBC Sports Network. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, Washington is a -120 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. Washington has won all three of their games versus Pittsburgh this season. These clubs have seen each of their last five meetings go under the total, and there was an average of only 3.6 goals combined scored per game.

Penguins Back on Track
The Pittsburgh Penguins have rebounded nicely from a recent three game losing streak, winning each of their previous two contests in decisive fashion. Pittsburgh is coming off a 5-1 home win over the Florida Panthers on Sunday, and was a 4-2 winner at St. Louis the night before. Marc-Andre Fleury continues to have a terrific season in goal for the Penguins. Fleury has compiled an excellent .953 save percentage over his last four starts. Pittsburgh has seen each of their previous five games versus Metropolitan Division opponents go under the total. They’ve also gone a dismal 7-15 against the money line in divisional games during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign.

Time to start another Win Streak for Caps
The Washington Capitals were a 3-2 overtime shootout loser at Philadelphia on Sunday. That loss snapped a four game winning streak, and Washington is now a stellar 8-3 against the money line in their last eleven games. Similar to tonight’s opponent, the Capitals have seen their last five divisional games go under the total. Washington has also gone a very profitable 12-3 against the money line in their previous fifteen games at home. Braden Holtby has been very good in goal during his last four starts for the Capitals, compiling a sparkling .938 save percentage, and three of the four went under the total.

Final Analysis
The Capitals have absolutely dominated the Penguins this season by outscoring them 10-1 in those three encounters. A key element in those contests has been the play of goaltender Braden Holby. He started in all three of those wins, posted two shutouts, and compiled an off the charts .989 save percentage. My professional experience has shown me that once a goaltender (Holtby) has a team’s (Penguins) number, follow the momentum as long as the price is reasonable. I’m siding with the money line home favorite in this one for one of my NHL picks on Wednesday.
