Will Braden Holtby to tie Martin Brodeur for the most regular season victories tonight with a win over the New York Islanders? Read our betting preview on the game and profit from a winner tonight.

There is no doubt that the New York Islanders are more focused on winning hockey games than the Washington Capitals but the Caps still have some unfinished business.  With four games to play, New York can still catch the New York Rangers for third place in the Metropolitan Division while being mindful that the Flyers can still catch them for the first wild card spot while Braden Holtby continues his pursuit of martin Brodeur's single season win total, a record he can tie tonight.

Washington has dominated the season series winning all three meetings. New York has been on fire at home but on the road has been different as they've lost six of their last seven games.  Injuries have piled up as their number one goaltender, Jaroslav Halak, has put allot of pressure on Thomas Griess to push the Islanders into the postseason. He has been spectacular but I'm not ready to put my financial confidence in him until I know he can handle a bigger work load.

Two pairing defensemen Travis Hamonic and center Mikhail Grabovski has been out.  The loss of Hamonic takes away some physicality to the Islanders game while the loss of Grabovski leaves them without a playmaking forward who plays with some grit to his game. To make matters worse another D-man Calvin de Hann left in the second period, Monday, after taking a puck off his right knee.  If he is less than 100% then they lose a reliable, solid player that can log allot of ice time.

As Barry Trotz may be trying to find the magic formula between resting his players while fighting off complacency he always knows that Braden Holtby will be there to pick up the pieces if his President's Trophy winning club isn't finding their intensity level to be at normal standards.  In his last five starts Holtby is 4-0-1 with a 1.18 goals against average.  He has just one regulation home loss since late October with a 22-1-1 record with a sparkling 2.03 GAA. Holtby has been just as good against New York posting a 10-1-2 record along with a 2.08 GAA in his career.

With Trotz trying to properly juggle his line-up the Caps have dropped two of three games which leads me to believe that you'll get a truer effort from Washington especially in front of Holtby.  In their loss to the Coyotes you could not have found a group more uninterested to play that what Washington brought to the table in the 4-0 defeat in front of rookie goaltender Philipp Grubauer.

I'm not a guy who likes to go against great teams in hopes that one team raises their level of play or the other lowers theirs.  The Capitals are 43-17 in their last 50 games while Holtby has stopped 78 of 83 shots faced against New York this season.  That's good enough for me to back as my NHL Pick even though the price is high on the NHL Odds.
