Can the Los Angeles Kings shoot down the last glimmer of hope that the San Jose Sharks have in hopes of winning a division crown? Check the NHL Odds and game preview before placing your NHL picks tonight.

I have the Los Angeles Kings (45-25-5 95 pts) ranked number three in my latest power rankings and number one in the Western Conference. Their 95 points ranks fourth but what's most important is that Head Coach, Daryl Sutter, has his team ready to play every night. When I back the Kings I never have to worry about a lack of effort.

It seems strange but the San Jose Sharks would probably not have home ice advantage during the playoffs.  Among the playoff contenders, they have the worse home ice record at 16-18-3.  They've dropped three straight including a 4-2 loss to Dallas, Saturday, two days after allowing six goals to the Edmonton Oilers who are one of the leagues poorest offensive teams. What's more troubling that in those three games they had a chance to clinch a playoff spot in all of them which causes me to put up a red flag when it comes to backing them in big spots on the NHL odds. I wonder if somewhere in the back of their minds if the Sharks would be happier with a loss tonight, with seven to play, so they can firmly be in that third spot but potentially would have to start on the road against Anahiem. San Jose could lose 19 regulation games at SAP for the first time in 15 seasons.

What makes the Sharks strong looked anything but against Dallas.  The Sharks have one of the leagues best power play units, scoring on 22.1% of their chances ranking them fourth but against Dallas they were 0-6 and looked bad doing it.  I didn't like the way they passed the puck mostly, they didn't look as confident which led to their lack of crisp passing.  Tape to tape passing was below average. Part of a good trend is knowing when to jump on board and I'm banking on their power play not being as effective tonight which takes a big part of their game away.

These two teams have split four meetings this season with Los Angeles winning both games in San Jose. The Kings have won five of their last six visits to SAP including game seven in the 2014 playoffs which saw the Sharks completley collapse after winning the first three games of their playoff series. They may be getting a Sharks team that may be wearing down a bit as they has dropped four of their last five against the Western Conference.

The Kings dropped three straight games on their recent road trip but hopefully confidence was restored with a 6-4 home victory over the Edmonton Oilers, Saturday.

Despite their recent 1-3 streak the Kings have always been a reliable play when the competition gets better.  In their last 28 games the Kings are 20-8 against teams with a winning record.

For our NHL pick, It looks like there is some plus money out there so I'd recommend jumping on that Quick, pun intended.
