NHL Western Final Game 2
The Blues and Sharks square off on Tuesday night in Game 2 of their Western Conference Finals series. St. Louis won the opener 2-1 despite being outshot 32-23. Brian Elliot once again turned in a stellar performance in goal for the Blues with 31 saves.

Recently Shark Bitten in Enemy Waters
After sporting the best road record in the NHL this season, and winning their first three playoff away games, San Jose has now dropped four in a row on enemy ice. On a more positive note, San Jose has gone 6-1 during their last seven following a loss in their previous game. Conversely, St. Louis is just 3-5 during the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs following a win.

I’m personally not going to be wagering on the side tonight. However, if you put the proverbial gun to my head, I would take San Jose as a +110 money line underdog for one of my NHL picks.

The Total
Since I like the over in Game 2, currently the best NHL betting odds regarding this specific wager is at YouWager. All major sportsbooks have this total listed as 5.0. However, they offers a best price of -107 for a wager to go over the total.

Compelling Game 2 Totals Trends
You may be surprised to know that since the 2012 postseason, Game 2 of each of those series have gone 34-19 (64.2%) over the total. It gets even more lucrative when assessing each Game 2 of a Conference Final. Since 1996, Game 2 of a Conference Finals series have gone a cumulative 25-9 (73.5%) over the total. Evidently, once teams get beyond the feeling out process of a series opener, things tend to open up more offensively in Game 2. I often look at most betting trends as being irrelevant or purely coincidental. That’s not the case in this instance. One of my favorite sports betting slogans is “numbers don’t lie and liars don’t figure”. Keeping with that theme, I just can’t ignore this particular Stanley Cup Playoff trend, and it’s a big piece of my overall handicapping equation.

Here are some interesting team trend tidbits in regards to tonight’s total. San Jose has scored 3 goals or more in eight straight games following an outing in which they tallied 1 goal or less. The Blues have also scored 3 goals or more in four straight games, following an outing in which they scored 2 goals or less. St. Louis has gone 20 straight games without going under the total in back to back outings

Both teams have displayed a potent power play in the playoffs. St. Louis has cashed in on 28.6% of their man advantage opportunities, and San Jose is a tad better at 28.9%.
