Teams from the “Original Six”
The Canadians host the Rangers on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada with the opening face-off slated for 7:05 PM ET. This will be a possible preview of a first round series in the NHL Eastern Conference Playoffs. The game will be televised by the NHL Network. According to NHL betting odds Montreal is a -135 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.0. The Canadiens are 8-1 in their last 9 home games versus the Rangers. These clubs have failed to see any of their last 8 meetings go over the total. Tonight will conclude the regular season for both clubs.
to Finish on High Note
The Montreal Canadiens squandered an excellent opportunity to sew up the 3rd overall spot in the Eastern Conference by dropping their previous 2-games. They now find themselves 1-point behind Tampa Bay, need to win this evening, and hope that Washington can knock off the Lightning tomorrow in order to finish 3rd. The most disappointing part the aforementioned scenario was their lackluster performance in a 2-0 home loss to the New York Islanders on Thursday. The Canadiens were outshot 30-19 in the contest by a team who’s been eliminated from playoff contention for quite some time now, and blanked on the scoreboard by one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. The good news is the Canadiens are 13-4 following a home loss this season, and they’re also 6-1 in their last 7 following a game in which they scored 2-goals or less.
The New York Rangers have been one of the best road teams in the entire NHL this season with a mark of 25-15 versus the money line. The Rangers enter tonight having failed to go over the total in their previous 6-games. They’ve allowed 1-goal or less in 8 of their last 13-games. The bad news for the “Blue Shirts” is that they’re just 12-20 versus the money line this season versus opponents with a winning record, including a dismal 1-5 in the last 6 in that exact situation.
Any money line home favorite of -120 to -170 in the 2nd half of the season, versus an opponent that has a 0.3 or better goal per game differential on the season, and that opponent has allowed 1-goal or less in each of their last 2-games, has gone 75-26 (74.3%) during the last 18 seasons. Take Montreal over New York for NHL picks.
