The Flyers’ Offense is Waking Up
The Philadelphia Flyers have had their issues at the offensive end of the ice his year, but they may be coming out of it some. For the year Philadelphia has averaged just 2.0 gpg, which is 29th in the league, but in their last six games they have put up an average of 3.0 gpg. Is it sustainable for this team? I don’t think so as they just don’t have many consistent scorers on their team. Claude Giroux has 10 goals, Wayne Simmonds has seven and Brayden Schenn has six, but no one else on the team has more than four goals on the year. They also have just three players with more than six assists as well. Just not much on this team as far as offense, but they have played better of late.

Despite ranking 29th in the league in scoring the Flyers are 6th in shots taken and that puts them at last in the league in offensive efficiency (6.49%). The defense for the Flyers hasn’t been great either as they come in ranked 20th in goals allowed, giving up 2,7 gpg, while also ranking 29th in shots allowed and 20th when on the penalty kill. Steve Mason has been at the core of their goals allowed ranking, but he is slated to start in St Louis on Thursday night, so the crease will be handed over to Michal Neuvirth in this on. Neuvirth comes in at 6-5 with a 2.00 GAA, while vs Dallas in his career he has gone 0-2 with a 3.54 GAA.

Sharp Saves the Day in Win Over Hurricanes
On Tuesday night the Dallas Stars took on Carolina, in what turned out to be a very wild game, especially the third period. The Dallas Stars entered the third period with a 5-1 lead, but the Hurricanes scored four times in a 13 minute period to tie the game at five apiece. Patrick Sharp then scored a goal on a power play with just 19 seconds in regulation to win the game. It was a very efficient game for the Stars on offense as they scored their six goals on just 20 shots. Dallas is 2nd in the league in offensive efficiency at 10.95%. Jamie Benn also had a very good game as he scored once and had three assists as well. His 39 points this year are tied for 2nd in the league with Tyler Seguin behind Patrick Kane of Chicago.

Taking the win in the game was Antti Niemi, who only played 6:43 in the game and faced zero shots. Kind of like a pitcher throwing one pitch to get the win. He was brought in to replace Kari Lehtonen after the game was tied at 5-5. Niemi is now 11-6 on the year with a 2.55 GAA on the year. The Stars may want to keep Lehtonen on the bench for this one as he is just 1-12 with a 3.49 GAA in his career vs Philadelphia, while Niemi is 3-1 with a 1.61 GAA vs them in his career. The Stars check in at 1st in the league in scoring (3.6 gpg) and 2nd in power play conversions (25.6%), while on defense they are 16th in goals allowed (2.6 gpg) and 16th in penalty kill (80.7%).

Philadelphia is:

The Under is 17-4-5 in their last 26 vs. a team with a winning record

The Under is 7-3-1 in their last 11 games playing on 0 days rest

Dallas is:

The Under is 6-1 in their last seven vs. the Metropolitan

The Under is 16-6-1 in the last 23 meetings

Betting Analysis
This play will be very strong should the Stars do the smart thing and start Niemi in goal as he has very solid numbers vs the Flyers, while Lehtonen has very poor numbers vs them. The Flyers average just 2.1 gpg on the road and they will have their better goalie in there for this one. This has been an Under series and I see it continuing tonight. Take Under as the NHL pick against the NHL odds.
