The Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils will meet for the third time in less than two weeks on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET, ESPN+), with the former taking both previous encounters. 

Neither team has found a consistent winning formula recently. The Devils have endured a precipitous free fall, losing 10 of their last 14 games. That abject run doesn't inject much confidence in their overinflated Stanley Cup odds. 

However, our Flyers vs. Devils prediction, picks & player props expect the home favorites to beat Philadelphia for the first time this season.

The last month has been disastrous for the Devils. You don't have to look far beyond their .393 points percentage since Dec. 28, which is tied for the third-worst with the Chicago Blackhawks. Not only are the Devils ensnared in their worst run of the season, but Jacob Markstrom is expected to be out for up to six weeks with an MCL sprain. 

At this point, I have serious reservations about their perceived Stanley Cup pedigree. They still have the fifth-shortest odds despite their month-long malaise. 

New Jersey should be the more desperate team

That said, I can't see the Devils losing to the Flyers three times in less than two weeks. Philadelphia has lost two in a row on the road, the first of which was a rancid 6-1 loss in the Big Apple to the New York Rangers. It was an ugly defeat and a rare off night for Samuel Ersson, who finished with -1.41 goals saved above expected. 

Ersson recovered majestically on Monday against the Devils at home, guiding them to a 4-2 win. Meanwhile, Jake Allen struggled. The goaltending battle was more even in the first meeting, which Philadelphia won 3-1 after scoring a late empty-netter. 

The Devils won the expected goals battle in the recent 4-2 loss in Philly. While that provides about as much consolation as a pat on the back after a loss, New Jersey should be in good shape if they dictate proceedings for the second time in three days. That, of course, is predicated on Allen playing decently. 

After winning two of his last three starts, there are promising signs on that front. A winning $10 bet will profit $8.33.

Bratt has 21 assists in 26 home games and 28 in as many victories. As I expect the Devils to win, it makes sense for Bratt to chip in.
