The NHL coaching carousel has seen a number of strange events over the years, but this one is an instant classic. Here is a recap of the events and we will try and figure out what it means looking ahead.

This past Sunday, Montreal lost at Boston 4-0. That was the Canadiens sixth loss in seven games and they were going into this new schedule break and did not have a game until this Saturday.

On Tuesday, Montreal fired head coach Michel Therrien, who was on his second tour of duty with the franchise. That was shocking enough for a first place team which had started the season 13-1-1, however, they have gone 18-25 SU since and Montreal fans are hardly patient. In a stunning move, the Habs hire deposed Boston head coach Claude Julien, who got his walking papers the week prior.

If this was not amazing enough, how and why would the Bruins allow Julien permission to take over for their most hated rival? And what is the deal with Montreal? How big is recycling in that city? The reason for asking is Julien, like Therrien, is now on his second tour of duty with the Canadiens! What in the world is going on in Montreal?

If you are making NHL picks, what should you think about Montreal? Great question. This team was never as good as they started. Though the Canadiens are 8th in league in scoring, they should make a trade for more depth at the center position for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

When thinking about the NHL odds, Julien will build a more structured defense to make goalie Carey Price even more formidable and tinker with the speed he has at forwards on offense.

No question part of the reason Julien took the job was to get back at Boston and here is to hoping they meet in the playoffs.
