Monday is a quiet day in the NHL with just four games on the card, but nonetheless this handicapper has found the end in these games and shares his expert picks here.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Boston Bruins

NHL Odds: Penguins -130

The Boston Bruins offense has gone completely cold as they’ve seemingly forgotten how to put the puck in the net. They are just 3-3 over their last six games and have scored just nine goals in the process.

On Monday, they’ll host the Pittsburgh Penguins, who have the league’s best offense but I still expect this game to be low scoring. For starters, the Bruins are at home, so they should be able to dictate the pace a little bit. Secondly, goaltender Tuukka Rask does very well against Pittsburgh. Although the Pens lead the NHL with 3.53 goals per game, Rask has won six of seven against them while posting a .956 save percentage in the process. The Pens should counter with Marc-Andre Fleury, who is 8-1-1 with a 1.76 GAA in his last 10 starts. Take the under for one of our NHL picks here.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Islanders

NHL Odds: Islanders -150

This is a matchup of two teams heading in opposite directions as the Philadelphia Flyers have just one win in their last five games while the New York Islanders are one of the hottest teams in the NHL. They’ve won three straight and eight of their last nine with the only loss coming in Tampa Bay. The Isles offense has been red hot as they’ve scored an average of 4.3 goals per game over their last six. They shouldn’t have too many problems against the Flyers, who are one of the league’s worst defensive teams giving up 3.05 goals per game.

Although I do think the Isles win, especially since the Flyers have lost four straight and six of eight on the road, the juice is a little too high for me. Instead, I’ll look for this game to go over the number. There’s ample firepower on both sides and two questionable blue lines.

Minnesota Wild vs. Florida Panthers

NHL Odds: Wild -130

The Wild are coming off a 2-1 loss in Tampa Bay but that’s a small blip on the radar considering how they’ve been playing recently. They are the favorites in NHL betting odds today against the Panthers. Even with that loss, they’ve still won four of five. They should be able to get back on track on Monday against a Panthers team that’s really laboring these days. Florida has alternated wins and losses for six straight games but has still lost six of nine. Florida doesn’t really have a decided home-ice advantage here as they are 3-4 at home this season, so it’s not as if the Wild will be intimidated. The Panthers are giving up a ton of shots per game (31.1) and that should allow the Wild to keep their hot offense in rhythm (scored 16 goals in last six).
