Monday’s a quiet one on the ice with only three games on the card. We’ve got previews and NHL picks on all three contests, which include taking a couple of shots with big road dogs.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Lightning -128
The Tampa Bay Lightning will be looking to win a seventh-straight meeting between the teams on Monday and it’s hard to make a case for the Flyers. Tampa Bay is the highest scoring team in the league, they have won three straight and seven of eight. Beyond that, the Flyers are without lead goaltender Steve Mason, who is out for a couple of weeks, and will have to resort to using Ray Emery, who has lost three straight and posted a .739 save percentage this month. He has a 3.21 GAA on the season.

The Flyers have won two of three but on a bigger scale, have actually lost six of eight. They’re a decent home team (10-6-3) but this doesn’t look like the right place to take a shot. With Tampa Bay opening up at -128 on the NHL betting lines, we can invest early and get a good price on the better team.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Washington Capitals
Capitals -170
We’ve got a matchup of two hot teams here but how about taking a shot with the Colorado Avalanche? His play has keyed the Avs hot streak as they enter Monday as winners in five of their last six games. He’s 6-2-0 with a 1.97 GAA since returning from injury.

The Caps are 12-1-4 in their last 17 games, so this will be no cakewalk for the Avs, but it’s worth noting that Washington is mediocre at home (10-5-4) compared to on the road (12-6-4). The Caps have lost three straight at home to Colorado and Braden Holtby, who is expected to be in net, is 1-1-0 with a 3.00 GAA in two meetings with Colorado.

The Avs are worth a sprinkle here – especially with Varlamov going up against his former team here. The Avs have won three of four on the road and are worth a small play here, so add Colorado to your NHL picks of the day.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Los Angeles Kings
Kings -190
Laying -175 with the Kings is a bit nutty right now as this team isn’t playing well. Toronto has won three straight in Los Angeles while the Kings have dropped three straight and five of six, and are giving up tons of goals in the process. They’ve allowed a whopping 16 goals in their last three games, which is downright shocking considering how good of a team they can be defensively. This is definitely uncharacteristic of them. They’ve been digging themselves big holes to start games as they are a minus-6 in first period goal differential over their last six. On top of that, they’ll be without youngsters Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson, who are among their leading scorers and anchor their second line.

The Maple Leafs are a bit of a mess themselves having lost eight of 10 overall and six of their last eight on the road, but the price here indicates that they’re worth a shot. The Kings shouldn’t be laying this type of juice given how they’re playing.
