Monday is a quiet day in the NHL with just three games on the ice. You’ll find the Pittsburgh Penguins-New York Rangers game broadcast nationally on Sportsnet in Canada while the other two games will be shown locally. Let’s run through all of them and find out where the NHL betting value is among these games.

New Jersey Devils vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Odds:
Hurricanes -120
This is a matchup of two really bad teams, so we’re going to have to plug our nose and make a pick. The Hurricanes have lost eight of their last 11 while the Devils have lost eight of 10. Interestingly enough, both teams are coming off a loss to the Washington Capitals.

It’s hard to like either side as both teams are quite incompetent. The Devils are on the verge of getting their head coach fired while the Hurricanes might not be that far off from major changes too.

These are two of the lower scoring teams in the league as New Jersey has scored just three goals in their last three losses while the Canes have topped the two-goal mark just once in their last five games. That being the case, I’ll go under with my NHL picks.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Rangers
Odds:
Penguins -105
The New York Rangers have been a bad team for a little while now but a few wins against the Philadelphia Flyers, who are even worse, has masked their shoddy performance. When you remove those three wins from the equation, the Rangers have won just three times in their last 10 games.

The Pens come into this game riding some momentum as they beat Ottawa 3-2 on Saturday. That was their third win in four games and their fifth in seven outings. The Pens have been an excellent road team this season as they’ve won nine of their 12 away games. They should be able to do it again on Monday.

The best part of this matchup could be the great price listed on the NHL odds boards. The Pens are the better team of the two and since the Rangers are just 8-8 at home, there’s really no home-ice advantage for them. That means we can get the Pens at -105, which is reasonably good value. Take them in this spot.

NHL Pick: Penguins -105

Florida Panthers vs. St. Louis Blues
Odds:
Blues -200
The Florida Panthers have a little bit of momentum on their side as they’ve won two of three and four of their last six games. That’s pretty good for a team that was only 7-6-6 in their first 19 games. On Monday, they’ll be in St. Louis and they’ll be able to measure themselves up.

The Blues are coming off a bit of a rough spell as they’ve lost two of three but the two losses were on the road in Chicago and in Nashville. Those are two of the better teams in the NHL.

The Bllues are a different team at home as they give up just 2.08 goals per game when in front of their home audience. That’s the sixth-best mark in the NHL. The Panthers are actually one of the league’s best under bets in away games as they allow just 2.38 goals per game on the road (fifth-best) and score just 2.15 (sixth-fewest). I’ll look for an under in this one.
