For all the teams now in playoff mode, it is now go time. We will cover various aspects of this for this week, plus, let you know the best 'Under' teams to back.

When it comes to teams playing consistently Under the NHL odds, they either are a very good defensive team with some limitations on offense or a very poor offensive club who does OK on defense. That is exactly the case of the best four Under teams.

The Dallas Stars are the top Under club in the league and among the best choices for all totals for NHL picks at 34-16-7 Under. The Stars are in playoff contention because their defenders and goaltenders have been brilliant all year and they have been ranked 2-4 all season in goals allowed and in the Top 8 of penalty killing. What has held them back from being as good as say, the New York Islanders, is an offense that is 29th in goal scoring.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

These two came to play tonight. Khudobin gets his second shutout of the season and Seguin gets his 23rd and 24th goals of the season. #GoStars pic.twitter.com/1PviwwzEL4
— Dallas Stars (@DallasStars) 13 de fevereiro de 2019
\n"}[/]

Speaking of the Islanders (36-18-3 Under), they are arguably the biggest surprise in the league this year, currently holding down first place in the Metropolitan Division. All forecasts were for a dismal season for the Isles after John Tavares was tired of playing for a losing team that was not going to make the playoffs. Tavares departure and Washington not wanting to sign coach Barry Trotz off a Cup championship season, ended up working perfectly for New York. Under Trotz, the Islanders are the best defensive team in the NHL and the offense does enough to make among the best teams in the East.

Anaheim (35-20-3 Under) and Boston (33-22-3 Under) round out our Top 4. The Bruins, like the other playoff contenders, are a good bet because of their defense, which has been Top 3 nearly all season. The B's offense is better than Dallas or the Islanders at No.17, but it is hardly overwhelming.

The Ducks, they are just a bad hockey club whose time has passed. Scoring 2.16 goals a game would have been terrible at the beginning of this decade when hockey was still a lower scoring game. Now, in the modern era of open ice, faster skaters and less physical play, Anaheim scoring is pathetic and it explains why they are an Under group.

NHL Tasty Trendy Tidbits

BUFFALO is 11-4 revenging a loss where the team scored one or less goals this season.

EDMONTON is 5-14 after a nonconference game this season.

NEW JERSEY is 0-7 when playing six or more games in 10 days this season.

MINNESOTA is 10-2 after three consecutive nonconference games the last two seasons.

ANAHEIM is 1-10 after scoring two goals or less in three straight games this season.

BOSTON is 20-5 when playing with two days rest the last two seasons.

SAN JOSE is 10-3 OVER having won three of their last four games this season.

NY RANGERS are 11-4 OVER off a road loss this season.

CAROLINA is 20-9 UNDER in February games the last three seasons.

VANCOUVER is 10-1 UNDER off a road win against a division rival the last 3 seasons.

What Lies Ahead - The Schedule

Monday 2/18 - Boston at San Jose - This will be the late game on NBCSN and it will be important. The Sharks are trying to win the Pacific and be the top seed in the West and the Bruins want to jump over Toronto in the Atlantic.

Wednesday 2/20 - N.Y. Islanders at Calgary - This is an excellent matchup of two top teams that continue to be a bit under the radar, except to hockey bettors.

Thursday 2/21 - Washington at Toronto - The Maple Leafs are back home after a six-game road trip, but no rest for the weary having to face the Capitals. If you have ESPN+, you can bet and watch.

Friday 2/22 - Winnipeg at Vegas - The Jets will try and strengthen their lead in the Central and the Golden Knights just want to get back to playing good hockey.

Hockey Night in Canada - Saturday, Feb. 23

Montreal @ Toronto, 6:30 p.m. ET

Anaheim @ Edmonton, 10 p.m. ET

N.Y. Islanders @ Vancouver, 10 p.m. ET

For longtime hockey fans, you might see a bad game, but there is never a bad Original 6 matchup like the Canadiens at the Maple Leafs. At least in the later game, there is one good team to take in, the New York Islanders. Good luck on betting total on Ducks and Oilers.

Join our SBR's NHL Betting Forum
