It’s a quiet Monday on the ice with just three games on the docket. We’ve run through each of the games on the card to find out where the value is for our hockey picks.
Florida Panthers vs. New York Rangers
NHL Odds: Rangers -200
The Florida Panthers are in a bit slump as they have dropped six of their last seven games and it doesn’t figure to get any easier on Monday when they visit the New York Rangers. New York has won four straight games and they have owned this series of late. They have won four straight against the Panthers and five of six as the host. The Rangers have scored a whopping 15 non-shootout goals in the last four meetings alone. When the Rangers are averaging nearly four goals per game, they are going to be pretty hard to beat.
This is just a matchup of two teams heading in opposite directions and with that being the case, the Rangers are the better choice for your NHL picks. Since the juice is so high, we’ll take a flier with them on the puck line.
NHL Pick: Rangers -1.5
NHL Odds: Flames -104
The Winnipeg Jets continue to be a very streaky team. After winning five straight, they now enter Monday’s visit to Calgary on a three-game losing streak. They can’t seem to stop their opponents from scoring as they’ve given up a whopping 15 goals in the process. Goaltender Michael Hutchinson was a breath of fresh air to start the season but has gotten progressively worse each month. He had a 1.22 GAA in November, 2.14 GAA in December and he’s up to 2.62 in January. As a result, there’s a good chance we see Ondrej Pavelec tonight. However, Pavelec has just two wins in his last seven and has a 3.36 GAA in the process. He’s also dropped three of his last four against the Flames while posting a 3.55 GAA.
That being the case, we’ll take a shot with the Flames here. The over figures to be a solid play too as neither team is particularly strong between the pipes these days.
Pick: Flames -104 at Pinnacle
NHL Odds: Sharks -270
The San Jose Sharks are playing some of their best hockey of the season and now get to host a lousy Edmonton Oilers side, which means they’re likely to continue their strong play. They have won five of seven, which includes some impressive wins over the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings, the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks.
In this spot, it’s tough to take the Oilers as they have just four wins in 24 road games this season. They haven’t won a road game since November. Their goaltenders have been horrible as both have goals-against averages well over 3.00. On the flip side, Sharks netminder Antti Niemi is playing about as good as he has all season, posting a 1.67 GAA in his last six.
With the Sharks coming with such a steep price in NHL betting odds, take them on the puck line. They should win the game; we just need them to win by an extra goal.
NHL Pick: Sharks -1.5
