Vegas hopes to get back on the winning side as they try to avoid a three-game losing streak when they visit the Winnipeg Jets at the Bell MTS Centre. Puck drops at 8:00 ET / 5:00 PT
I’m glad that BetOnline is offering the best number on this one because it’s one of my favorite books, not because of its generous lines but if you check them out you’ll find that they offer lines on almost every league including the American Hockey League. It’s an important piece of information because many of us live in or around an AHL city. You have access to local writers who go to practices giving you a valuable asset. Do you really think sports books have a clue how the Hershey Bears looked Sunday against Bridgeport. They may have one guy assigned who checks scores and formulates a line based on a few recent games. Your advantage is enormous because you’re there.
On to tonight’s winner.
The Jets are too big of a favorite (-200) to worry about a side here but you know how I like to jump on ‘totals’ when I’m staring at a 6 (-109 UNDER). The Knights games seem to always fall on six lately but they’ll face a Jets team who’s games have been trending UNDER in four of their last five games. This is also the second meeting between these two with the first games going to the Knights 5-2 but you can bet there will be an emphasis on playing better defensively in a home revenge spot for the Paul Maurice’s team. Winnipeg is ranked 6th in goals allowed per game (2.68) and surely will be frosting at the mouth to prove their worth against the Knights who are in goals per game (3.46).
In goal for Winnipeg, Connor Hellebuyck (13-2-3, .925, 2.35) has been confirmed for the Jets against likely starter Maxime Legace (5-5-1, .870, 3.66) for the Knights. Hellebuyck allowed three goals against the Avalanche on Wednesday but his season form shows us that when he has a bad outing his ability to bounce back is strong. Against the Nashville Predators, Hellebuyck allowed five goals but then went on a streak where allowed just four goals in his next three games combined. After giving up five scores to the Knights at T-Mobile in early November Hellebuyck gave up five total goals in the next three games. We can count on a quality effort tonight from a goaltender who also has revenge on the mind.
Not a huge believer in the revenge factor? Think about this, I have a good friend that says the Winnipeg Jets were by far the most arrogant team to come to Vegas and the nights took that confidence and pinned a five spot on them. You can mark it down that Winnipeg will be better defensively, in fact, I think will have very little room to navigate against one of the bigger teams in the league.
Now we just needs Maxime Legace to do his part and we’ll cash a winner.
