With a huge slate of games on the NHL betting board tonight, this handicapper has decided to hone in on the clash between the Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars as it's loaded with nice value.

Kings in the Lone Star State
The defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings travel to the American Airlines Center in Dallas to take on the Stars on Saturday, and the opening face-off is scheduled for 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at SBR Sportsbook, the Kings are a -115 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. These teams have split their two meetings this season with the road team prevailing on each occasion. Both of those games stayed under the total.

Defending Champs Starting to Roll
It’s been a rather inauspicious start to the season for the Los Angeles Kings. They were able to put together an early 6-game winning streak, and then followed that up by losing 7 of their next 9-games. However, they’re seemingly back on track, and are riding a 3-game win streak heading into tonight Western Conference battle in Dallas. The Kings have just completed a 3-1 home stand that began with a 2-0 loss to tonight’s opponent. If Los Angeles is going to come full circle with this turnaround, they must find a way to get it going on the road. They’ve gone 1-6 in their 7 road games thus far. Much of their woes on the road can be attributed to poor special teams play. The Kings have gone just 1-for-22 (4.8%) on the power play, and have allowed opponents to cash in on 25.9% of their power play attempts against them during those 7 away games.

Stars Shine not so Bright
Let’s start with the good news for the Dallas Stars. They’re coming off a 3-1 home win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday. Now the bad news, despite the win, they’ve gone a miserable 3-10 during their last 13-games. Shoddy defensive play and shaky goaltending has plagued the Stars in the early part of this season. They’re allowing a whopping average of 3.4 goals per game. Tonight’s scheduled starting goaltender Kari Lehtonen has really struggled at home to begin the season, going 2-8 at the American Airlines Center, and compiling a below average .896 save percentage. Dallas has held its own in the first two periods of games this season. However, they’ve been outscored 29-16 in the 3rd period during their first 20-games.

Final Analysis
The Kings have allowed 3.4 goals per outing in 7 road games this season. They’ve also scored 21-goals combined during their previous 6-games overall. I’ve already chronicled the Stars defensive struggles. The flip side of the equation for Dallas is they possess some very skilled offensive forwards that can create headaches for the opposition. I like this one to be a relatively high scoring affair, and will be making a wager on the total in this one for one of my NHL picks today.
