The NHL odds have placed the New York Islanders as underdogs against the San Jose Sharks, understandably so, as they have gone cold, losing four of six. Read this before placing your NHL pick.

The New York Islanders Can Win Because…
Because the Sharks have had a crazy schedule. We’re only one month into the season but the Sharks have already played a whopping nine road games and this will be their first game back after a three-game trip. Typically, teams are flat at home after traveling. This will be the Sharks 11th game in 18 nights.

Keep in mind when placing NHL picks that the Sharks have been a bad home team so far this season. They are coming off losses to the Buffalo Sabres and Columbus Blue Jackets. If they can lose to those teams at the Shark Tank, they can lose to anyone – including the Islanders.

The San Jose Sharks Can Win Because…
The Islanders are really struggling. They’ve hit a wall and are having a really tough time winning games all of the sudden. The Isles won their first four games to start the year but have since dropped four of six. Their goaltending and defense has been their demise as they’ve allowed a whopping 24 goals in their last six. That equates to a 4.0 goals per game, which simply doesn’t fly in the NHL.

The Isles are not a great road team and it’s going to show here again, as reflected in the NHL odds. Look for the Sharks to get revenge on an earlier loss to the Isles this season and get the win.

Outlook & Pick
The Sharks have dropped six of eight and the Isles have lost four of six. Picking a side in this one is tricky – especially since San Jose hasn’t played many home games. Instead, go with the over in this one. Both teams have steady offenses but with the Isles goaltending woes, we should see a high-scoring affair.
