Expect a Power Outage in Florida Between the Capitals & Lightning

The large majority of public money has come in on the ‘over’ but champion handicapper Dana Lane explains why that thinking will result in a losing ticket.

Washington Capitals vs Tampa Bay Lightning

You can’t win them all with last night being an example of that.  The Penguins, Devils didn’t have a chance to get the ‘under’ early but streaks are made to be broken so let’s start a new one tonight.

The Washington Capitals head down South to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning from Amalie Arena at 7:00 ET/4:00PT.

I’m not about to jump on the inconsistent Capitals against a desperate Lightning team but when it comes to the ‘total’ we’re going to be all over the ‘under’ 5.5.

The best number we can find at SBR approved Sportsbooks is 5.5, shaded to the ‘under’. There are some 5’s with plus money attached to them but I recommend getting the extra half goal instead of chasing the better price.

The Lightning has been battling major injuries all season and it never seems to get better even with the hope that Steven Stamkos could return soon. Tampa is already missing Tyler Johnson, Vladislav Namestnikov, Cedric Paquette, now they may be without Ondrej Palat, who missed practice on Friday and was seen limping out of the arena Friday. Tampa Bay could also be without defensemen Jake Dotchin who didn’t attend Friday’s practice. Their absence from the line-up isn’t confirmed but head coach Jon Cooper was short with reporters when being asked about the injuries. That indicates to me that even if Palat and Dotchin do play, they won’t be 100%.

The Capitals are not a team the Lightning has fared well against even when healthy.  Washington has beaten the Lightning 12 of their last 15 meetings.

From the Lightning, I’m not confident of how many goals we can expect but they are facing a Capitals team who are facing some of their own problems as they limp in with a 1-4-1 record in their last six games. Injured center Andre Burakovsky was activated off IR on Friday after missing five weeks with a fractured right hand.  Remember, we don’t jump on a team just because a key player is returning.  It usually takes 2-3 games for a team to find offensive cohesiveness with a returnee.

I expect this game to be a low-scoring affair cashing another NHL pick for us tonight.
