With Couture and Thornton on the mend will that be enough to support the Sharks recent offensive slide, champion handicapper Dana Lane points out which side smart bettors should be on tonight.

Edmonton Oilers vs San Jose Sharks

Another giant winner last night as my followers might as well just start camping out at the cashiers cage with only a few days left in the season.  The Buffalo Sabres was our latest winner as a home underdog against the Montreal Canadiens.

Like with most games where the total opens at 5 -110, the public can’t get enough with tonight being no exception.  The public and professionals have bet this number up to -125 in some spots.  For our wager the best line available is at Matchbook where they have a sweet cash back promotion.  If you’re an underdog hockey player they consistently offer the most generous lines as is the case tonight.

As of right now this is a first round match-up with the intrigue being who will get home ice advantage.  Both teams are tied at 97 points with the Oilers owning a game in hand.

When we last saw the Oilers they allowed six goals to the Los Angeles Kings.  Edmonton is a much better defensive team and much like our Buffalo Sabres play last night, I expect the Oilers to apply an emphasis to the defensive end, especially with Joe Thornton and Logan Couture out of the line-up for the Sharks.

With those injuries the Sharks are thin at the center position so we can expect Chris Tierney and Micheal Haley to get more ice time, that’s only 12 goals between in 134 combined games.

We’ve already seen the impact of these injuries against the Vancouver Canucks.  The Sharks scored twice in the games opening 30 seconds but managed just one goal the rest of the way.  Head Coach Pete DeBoer has been juggling lines to get more production but until I see his combinations working or Couture and Thornton come back, I can only assume that they’ll still be looking for answers.

Both teams are solid defensive units so with the Sharks offense struggling for an identity lets get a ticket on a plus money under in this very important match-up.
