First things first, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holidays. 2016 has been a fantastic year and we anticipate that this upcoming year will be even better. Stay disciplined and manage that bankroll in 2017.

It's that time of year where we like to re-visit future odds because there are still quality teams offering a significant payout. Today we'll preview the Eastern Conference and tomorrow the West.

The Pittsburgh Penguins still sit on top of my power ratings mostly because there is not a team in the league that generates more reliable offensive pressure on a game-by-game basis.  Very rarely would I recommend playing against Pittsburgh unless the number is too high. The Pens generate 35 shots a game, which translates into Pittsburgh sitting as the highest scoring team at 3.40 goals per game.  This means that not only do they get a lot of shots on goal but those chances are quality opportunities.  Lets look at what we can get on the Penguins as far as a future ticket is concerned.

The best odds we can find is at Bovada, still offering 10/1 to win the Stanley Cup and 4.5 to 1 to win the Eastern Conference. I would highly recommend getting the Penguins now before Bovada adjust their lines.  You know with Pittsburgh that they will at least give you a deep run in the playoffs.

The second choice for me is the Philadelphia Flyers at 22/1. The Flyers are a team that hasn't begun to know how good they can be offensively. They rank 6th in shots per game and goals per game.  The telling statistic is they are first in missed shots on net. If they they improve the amount of shots that get to opposing net-minders their offensive capacity should expand, making them even more dangerous.

Next is the San Jose Sharks sitting at 16/1 at most books.  I'm not one to predict Stanley Cup rematches but it certainly looks to me as if Pittsburgh and San Jose are on that path.  Better to get a future down on both of these teams hopefully putting yourself in a position to hedge during the final.

You can get Montreal and Carey Price at 12/1 at Bovada followed by Columbus at 9/1.

A few overrated teams that bettors may want to jump on but should stay away from are the Ottawa Senators who appear to be an attractive play at 22/1 and the Chicago Blackhawks at 8 1/2 to 1. I know this may come as a shock to Blackhawks fans but they're not going to win the cup this season so please save your money.
