Our resident NHL handicapper will share his top two totals selections for Thursday in this informative betting preview article. Find out what his selections are in the games between the Blue Jackets/Islanders and Lightning/Senators.

New York Islanders vs. Columbus Blue Jackets 7:05 PM ET
The NHL betting odds at Pinnacle have a posted total of 5.5. This will be the third meeting of the season between these Metropolitan Division clubs, and each of the first two went over the total. The Islanders won both of those games by scores of 5-2 and 5-3 in addition to having 86-shots on goal combined during those contests.

The red-hot Columbus Blue Jackets enter Thursday’s game on a seven game winning streak. During that win streak, just one of those seven went under the total. Columbus averaged a robust 4.3 goals per game in those seven contests. The Blue Jackets have seen just seven of twenty-six games (26.9%) go under the total this season when facing a Metropolitan Division opponent.

The New York Islanders snapped out of their goal scoring drought with a 5-4 win over Detroit in their previous game. The Islanders are averaging an impressive 3.7 goals per game in twenty-six contests versus Metropolitan Division rivals this season.

I like this game to be a high scoring affair, and one of my NHL picks on Thursday will be reflective of just that.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Ottawa Senators 7:35 PM ET
According to the NHL betting odds at Heritage, the posted total in this game is 5.5. These Atlantic Division rivals have seen six of their previous eight encounters go over the total. The only two games that went under the number in that sequence of games, saw five goals combined scored in each contest.

The Ottawa Senators have seen just 36.8% of their thirty-eight games at home stay under the total. As a matter of fact, they’ve seen each of the last five games played at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa go over the total, and there was an average of 7.4 goals combined scored per contest. Ottawa is averaging a stellar 3.3 goals per game at home during the 2014-2015 NHL campaign.

Rookie Andrew Hammond is slated to be in goal tonight for the Senators. Hammond was off to a red-hot start after being recalled from the AHL Binghamton Senators, but he’s recently cooled off a bit. Hammond has compiled an unimpressive .884 save percentage in his last four starts.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have seen only 35.9% of their thirty-nine games on the road this season go under the total. They’re one of the most explosive scoring teams in the NHL, averaging an outstanding 3.2 goals per game for the season. The veteran Ben Bishop is slated to be between the pipes today for the Lightning. Bishop has struggled of late, compiling a poor .865 save percentage in his last four starts.
