The Anaheim Ducks have been a major disappointment so far this season but can they at least cash on the road in Carolina against a similarly-slumping Hurricanes team? Check our NHL pick here.

The Anaheim Ducks were supposed to be contending for the top spot in the Western Conference and possibly a Stanley Cup this season. However, if the playoffs started today, they’d be on the outside looking in as the 12th-seeded team. They enter Monday on a three-game losing streak and other than a brief four-game winning spurt at the start of November, this team has lost 12 of their 17 games this season. You really have to think twice about betting them on the NHL odds even when they’re listed with a cheap price tag on the road like they are on Monday

As for the Hurricanes, they’ve met expectations but that’s not a good thing. Not much was expected of them and not much has been delivered. They also enter Monday on a three-game losing streak. They’ve also lost five of their last six games. On the year, they have just six wins in their 17 contests.

Projected Starting Goalies
Eddie Lack is going to get the call for Carolina in this spot and that’s not necessarily a good thing. Cam Ward is the No. 1 goaltender in Carolina and while he’s been consistently average (2.52 GAA, .898 save percentage), his numbers have been better than Lack’s. Lack enters Monday having dropped three of his four starts this season while posting a 3.46 GAA and an .865 save percentage. He’s allowed at least three goals in three of his four starts and he’s yet to play a game in which his save percentage was above .897. For betting purposes, it’s worth noting that he hasn’t played in a game where the combined total was less than five.

As for the Ducks, Frederik Andersen is the probable. He has a 2.33 GAA and a .924 save percentage on the season. However, he can’t seem to buy a win these days. The Ducks have lost eight straight times that he’s been in net. What’s interesting is that he’s played pretty well but the Ducks offense has disappeared in those outings. They have scored a total of one goal in his last six starts. That means they’ve been shutout in five of his last six outings.

This is a tricky game to handicap. Both teams are struggling. The Canes have their backup in and he typically gives up goals in bunches. The Ducks are expected to have their top goaltender in net but they have provided no support to him, scoring just once in his last six starts. That makes it tough to pick a side or a total play.

I’m going to roll with Anaheim here and bank on their offense to get going against a sluggish Lack. He should be exactly what their offense needs, so take the Ducks with your NHL picks.
