Over has cashed in 8 of 10 Devils games involving the Metro Division and our expert NHL capper, Dana Lane, doesn't think the trend is about to change tonight.

I don’t know what’s got into me today.

Everyone knows that I usually like to bet UNDER’s or at least that’s what I try to find but this is a card that screams OVER on a bunch of games. I’ve talked about it before but I prefer to bet games where I know I’ll be wining for most of the game, just a personal preference. If I happen to lose it at the end then at least I was on the right side for most of the game making watching the game a little more enjoyable. This isn’t a handicapping angle, just how I’d rather watch sports. Today brings on a slate of games that I think are going to create a high tempo leading high scoring results. On the ‘Ice Guys Show’ this morning I did the unthinkable and played three OVER’s. Fingers crossed, here we go.

For our write-up we’re going to a game that will certainly produce a good number of scoring chances when the New Jersey Devils host the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Prudential Center with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 ET / 4:00 PT.

The Penguins have officially broken through their early season woes and have found their game. And, of course, they used the Capitals for their statement game. The #Pens are back. Look out, NHL.

They’re back! I shot the Pittsburgh Penguins right back up to the top of my power rankings last night after another thrashing of the Washington Capitals, 7-4. The Pens have always been in a holding pattern, sitting just outside the top 10 rankings for much of the season. There are teams like the Florida Panthers who have a lot of offensive talent but are way too unreliable to consider them for a high ranking, and then there are the Penguins who you’re just waiting for them to go on a long run, which they’ve done, so you can put them right back where they belong.

Mike Sullivan’s team has now won 10 of 13 games and part of the reason for that is their return to being one of the league’s most reliable offensive units. In their last 11 games Pittsburgh has scored 47 goals (4.27 GPG). The Pens are the second highest scoring team over the last three weeks, trailing only San Jose in overall goals but the Sharks have played two more games in that time frame and have only managed one more goal.

It’s reasonable to expect the Penguins to give us at 4-5 goals tonight so the question is can we rely on the Devils to give us the rest. The Devils have fallen off their season pace of 2.96 goals per game which has them ranked 12th overall but in the last three weeks the Devils just 21 goals in their last 9 games (2.33). The good news is when fast, quick transition teams are the opponent it also creates chances for the opposition.

There is no doubt that this contest will produce 70-75 shots. I’ll take my chances that we can crawl over the 6 with that many chances.
