New York Rangers players on ice

After a 3-2 OT loss last night the public expects the Rangers to bounce back with an ‘over’ effort but Dana Lane says this will be more of the same at the Garden.

Sometimes we are way off on our plays and last night was one of those night’s as we received a horrible defensive effort from the Tampa Bay Lightning who were not motivated to play against the Arizona Coyotes, easily pushing the ‘total’ over the number.  We make note and move on. One thing is for sure the Lightning will not be in the 2016 postseason.  You can’t lose three straight games at home, in late March, and expect to be participating in the postseason.

Tonight the garden is hosting two of the leagues storied franchises as the New York islanders and the New York Rangers hook up at 5:00 ET/8:00 PT.

The Rangers will be playing their second of back to back games after only managing only two goals against the Devils last night in a 3-2 overtime loss.

The public pounded the ‘over’ early because there was still some question of who the Rangers would start in net but we have confirmation that Antti Raanta will get the start again for the Rangers against Thomas Greiss for the Islanders.

The best ‘under’ number we can find at SBR approved Sportsbooks is 5.5 +109 at SportsInteraction. One note, Matchbook had this number at +109 for a minute so keep that in mind when you’re shopping for the best lines available here.

This hasn’t been the New York Rangers that we’ve seen all season, especially from an offensive standpoint.  The Rangers are ranked 5th in the league with 3.15 goals per game but if we break it down further the Rangers are a mediocre 14th over the last month while switching to more defensive style of hockey.  The Rangers have given up the least amount of shots in the league over the last two weeks.  Wagering is about making adjustments and it’s time to adjust how we view the Rangers as they are prepping for playoff mode.

Since starting netminder Henrik Lundqvist’s injury the Rangers are just 2-3-1 and look like they are playing to protect Raanta more than they would Lundqvist, leading to lower scoring games.
