Almost always in the league, a small slate of games is followed by a larger grouping, which is what we have today with NHL betting odds on two-thirds of the teams in action on Tuesday.

Having made up my mind on other contests for NHL picks, I am still be very intrigued to follow Dallas at Chicago, Los Angeles at Minnesota and St. Louis at San Jose, all encounters with playoff implications and excellent matchups for tonight. When breaking down the NHL odds boards, the idea is to win and my style is to find the best teams or situations which I really think that can produce winners and help build bankrolls. Having shown a profit the last four days, let's go after No.5.

Tampa Bay Builds on Success
After reaching the first place summit of the Atlantic Division, Tampa Bay (41-31 SU) turned around and lost five of six and fell back to second. The Lightning wrapped up road trip with 2-0 win at Arizona Saturday and returns to action with a huge six-game homestand. Detroit (36-36 SU) will provide the opposition and they have work to do themselves.

The Red Wings hold a mere one point lead over Philadelphia for the last playoff position in the East and it is extremely important they win tonight because the Flyers will have played one fewer game, thus can potentially gain ground. Tampa Bay has been assigned as home favorite and they would seem to be in comfort zone, having won seven of nine over the Red Wings at Amalie Arena, including the past five in a row. The Detroit offense has been percolating with 11 goals in past three games, but like Tampa Bay is playing with two days off, yet is just 10-17 with that amount of rest the last two seasons.

Anaheim Cashes on Canadiens Defensive Woes
After dropping three in a row, Anaheim (40-31 SU) has stabilized it's situation in taking three of four and continues five-game north of the border road trip at Montreal (33-40 SU). The Ducks trail Los Angeles by four points in the Pacific. Having struggled with scoring all season, after tallying three goals in three games during losing streak, Anaheim has bounced back by finding the back of the net 15 times in next four contests.

With Montreal's continued struggles in stopping the puck and ranked 22nd in goals against at 2.82, the Ducks should be able to keep offensive flowing. Rookie goalie Mike Condon was placed in an impossible situation having to replace Carey Price and while he did a good job at first, he has been really struggling. In his last seven starts, Condon has allowed 3.40 goals-against average and now on the season he ranks toward the bottom of the league with a .904 save percentage. Having better defensive support would help Condon but this does not seem to be coming and Montreal is a +160 home underdog. Want one more reason to back Anaheim, how about 10-0 playing against losing team with 40 to 49 win percentage in the second half of the season.

Washington Ends Road Losing Skid
Being on the verge of wrapping up division title and top seed for Eastern Conference, it is not all joyful with Washington (51-20 SU) these days. The Capitals have lost three in row away from home and though they are still outstanding 23-12 on road, they are troubled. Washington has been playing bored hockey for quite awhile despite finding ways to win. You can tell be players comments there is a concern because they realize no matter how good their record, if they enter the playoffs playing in this manner, they are vulnerable. After giving up a season-six goals to Pittsburgh, Washington is road favorite to expose Winnipeg's (34-39 SU) 26th rated defense and start playing the way they are capable.
