We move ahead to Thursday's NHL betting card, checking NHL odds we came up with a hot betting trio.

Outsmarted myself yesterday, actually liking Philadelphia with their home domination over Chicago, but got too cute. Also, what a stunner that Arizona ambushed Anaheim 4-0 as +180 road underdogs for sports picks!

Let's move on to today and after checking out all the NHL odds, I have three plays locked and loaded.

Islanders Hand Nashville First Loss
The Predators defense has forged one of their best starts in franchise history at 3-0 and they continue their road trip at the Barclays Center after beating New Jersey two nights ago 3-1. Nashville's suffocating defense has been on display with their defensemen forcing opposing teams wide and cutting off passes across the middle and goalie Pekka Rinne has cleaned up the rest, as the Preds have allowed just two goals. Nashville the last couple years has posted very good first half records, thus, this is not a complete surprise they are playing well again.

The Islanders are 1-1-1 and any NHL handicapper realizes you have to protect home ice and New York is in the midst of playing 10 of their first 15 games at home and have an opportunity to really jump start their season. John Tavares is the Isles leader, but defenseman Nick Leddy was extremely helpful last season in both New York wins over Nashville, with two goals and three assists. While Nashville is a tempting underdog, they are 2-10 in road games after a win by two goals or more, which sends me to smallish home favorite.

NHL Pick: Islanders -115 at 5Dimes

Florida Baffles Buffalo
When making NHL picks, you cannot be afraid to take the right big favorites in my opinion. Sure, plenty of -200 or higher money line favorites lose, but that is going to happen and in the long run finding the right favorite or terrible underdog can yield a nice profit on these games over the course of a season at wagering outlets like Wagerweb.ag.

Case in point is this Atlantic Division affair, where Florida has scored 11 goals in three games and why this stands out is they were shutout 1-0 in Philadelphia. The Panthers have a lot of forwards who can put the puck in the back of the net and as we have seen already this year, they can do so in bunches.

Buffalo has a new coach in Dan Bylsma and they made other good off-season moves in hope of turning this back into a winning franchise. Bylsma's first order of business was improving the league's worst power play (13.4 conversion rate) and four of their six goals have come in man-advantage situations.

Nevertheless, the Sabres are still rebuilding and they are 3-27 in road games having lost two of their last three contests.

NHL Pick: Panthers -197 at Heritage

Back Montreal Until They Falter
The Canadiens have come roaring out of the gate in the first month of the season at 4-0. What makes this especially noteworthy is all those victories have come on the road and they have home opener tonight. In the long and storied history of Montreal, they have never started a year with five consecutive victories. In net for the Canadiens will be reigning Hart and Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Carey Price, who has posted a 1.67 goals against average and does not mind facing the Rangers, with 6-1 record and 0.43 GAA.

New York has been no slouch at 3-1 and off their setback at Winnipeg, is 17-6 away after allowing four goals or more. However, goalie Henrik Lundqvist is 4-6-2 with a 3.81 GAA in 13 regular season contests at the Bell Centre for his worst numbers in any venue where he's appeared at least five times and it's only gotten worse lately at 0-4-1 with a 4.30 GAA. With the Habs 11-1-1 on home ice against the Blueshirts in the last seven years, back Montreal.

NHL Pick: Canadiens -124 at Pinnacle
