The NHL odds for today show quite a few afternoon games and to a certain degree because of time restrains and indifference, we will not choose any of those today for NHL picks.

Though I would still at least consider Washington since they are 17-7 on the road and New Jersey is merely 12-13 on home ice. What worries me a little about the Capitals is the Devils are 5-0 this season in next contest after OT loss.

Instead, I have three other NHL picks for Saturday, with the best choice the first one and in order from there. We have now won 16 of our past 20 days, including nice 8-1 run. This is not all I do, occasionally taking time to have fun and I will be at the Waste Management Open in Scottsdale today. Look for me, I'll be the guy in red shirt among the 175,000 people there.

San Jose the Choice on the Road
The NHL odds have San Jose (27-23 SU) as +100 road underdogs at Nashville (24-28 SU) which suits the Sharks just fine. San Jose has the second-best road record in the league at 17-9 SU. For whatever reason, the Sharks just play better on the road and are fourth in scoring at 3.1 goals a game and ninth in defense at 2.5 goals allowed. One place they have not seen success is Nashville, with five consecutive defeats, however, the Predators have not been very predatory at Bridgestone Arena with three straight losses, including the first two of this four-game homestand.

After being airtight defensively in permitting exactly one goal in five games, Nashville's defense came unhinged and conceded six to Philadelphia Thursday in 6-3 whipping. With San Jose already 8-2 away off a road win and the Preds 3-11 off two or more consecutive home losses the last three seasons, the underdog Sharks are the top play tonight.

Dallas Dumps Blackhawks
Oddsmakers are telling us first place Chicago (35-20 SU) is better than second place Dallas (33-19 SU), making the Stars only -115 home favorites. Despite this, I believe this adds value to Dallas who learned something about themselves this week and think it will carry over.

After losing seven road games in a row, the Stars won at Winnipeg and at Colorado, which showed this club has some grit and is willing to dig a little deeper and not just play "pretty boy" hockey, freely skating and winning just by outscoring opponents, but playing defense also.

The Blackhawks have been playing exceptional over an extended period of time with a 15-3 SU record, yet Dallas has really been a conundrum, losing all three matchups by total score of 14-3. While it would be easy to make the case Chicago should be in revenge-mode, they are 3-11 away after an OT game and the Stars are 15-4 after a contest where seven or more goals were scored.

Colorado Returns to Winning Ways
If you have been reading these articles daily, the other day I mentioned to be wary of Colorado (27-27 SU) versus Dallas for a couple of reasons and though it was not an official pick, it proved sage advice with the Avalanche falling in OT. (pun intended) Tonight, no reason to be worry as Colorado breaks brief two-game skid and whips Winnipeg (22-29 SU).

The Jets seldom get off the ground on the road as 9-16 record shows and they have lost five of six overall thanks to a porous defense allowing 21 goals (3.5 GAG). Winnipeg has lost 14 of last 18 contests in visiting sweaters and four straight at the Pepsi Center. It certainly seems the Jets will not have their thirst for victory quenched in Colorado this evening as underdogs.
