It does not get any simpler than this in looking over the NHL odds. There are only three games to choose from, thus looking at the sportsbooks presentations doesn't involve deep thinking.

Tough day for me yesterday and for a second straight week have to dig out of hole, but that's what happens when being a hockey handicapper or any bettor when making sports picks, you will go up and down and off days require a bounce back just like I did last week. Here is game-by-game breakdown with NHL odds.

Vancouver Wins Ugly Matchup
While having fewer games to chose makes matters less complicated, when you get a game like this, where heads or tails can be nearly as accurate. This is Vancouver's final stop on a seven-game road trip and it has not been pretty. The Canucks (7-12 SU) are 1-5 SU on this road excursion and a case can made they have been competitive with only one loss by more than one goal. Nevertheless, Vancouver does have problems, allowing at least three goals in nine of last 10 games. Will the Canucks be ready to play on final game of trip or will blowing 3-0 second period lead at Montreal in 4-3 OT loss on Monday just make them anxious to get home?

Winnipeg (8-12 SU) after a good start to season has played eight of last nine on the road and are 2-7, which includes six straight setbacks. In those defeats the Jets defense has been deplorable, allowing 4.5 goals a game.

Winnipeg is a -135 home favorite but teams off long road trips without much rest are seldom a good bet for NHL picks and at least Vancouver has showed resolve with 8-2 record after an OT loss. Not a ringing endorsement, but the Canucks are my choice.

NHL Pick: Vancouver +111 at BetOnline

Washington's Offense Tops Detroit
Washington (13-5 SU) has been spotty of late with .500 record in past six games. The Capitals will be out to avoid losing consecutive games for the first time this season at Detroit. Washington's offense has been like rollercoaster ride with several up and downs, yet overall, they are still good enough to be 5th in scoring in the league at 3.06 GAG.

Detroit is off a 4-3 victory at Ottawa, which was a rare offensive outburst for them. The Red Wings no longer have the firepower of years past and have tallied more than two goals twice in past 10 contests. This goes to an issue which as existed all season, the lack of shots on net for Detroit, who only recently moved up to 29th in this category after being last all season.

The Red Wings have won 11 of 16 at Joe Louis Arena over the Caps, but with frequent scoring droughts and averaging only 1.49 goals versus Washington goalie Braden Holtby, and Alex Ovechkin leading the offense, I'll back the Capitals as -130 road favorite to win.

NHL Pick: Washington -115 at Pinnacle

Confident Chicago Edges Edmonton
With top line defensive players back in the fold, Chicago (10-8) opens a six-game western journey feeling good and seeking to improve 2-5 road record. Veteran defensemen Duncan Keith and Michael Rozsival are back on the ice from injury, in front of goalie Corey Crawford, which should help the Blackhawks lower 3.3 GAG allowed in the visiting sweaters. Chicago has given up just three goals in past two contests since the backliners returned on the ice and face Edmonton (6-12 SU), who is 1-4 in recent outings, with a defense conceding 15 goals in past four games.

Chicago at -155 does seem a little overpriced on the money line, but they have won six of seven in this matchup and with Crawford in net, he has won five straight starts against the Oilers, and has a 1.23 GAA in the last four. Off their 4-3 loss at Los Angeles, Edmonton is 3-20 after a road game where both teams scored three or more goals the last three seasons.

NHL Pick: Chicago -165 at 5Dimes
