It’s a watered down NHL betting schedule today with just two puck drops around the league. Find out what NHL odds are trading and where we’re leaning with our NHL picks on tonight’s double-header.

Ottawa Senators vs. NY Islanders
The Ottawa Senators are out of the playoffs now, dropped out of the field of late season hopefuls when they failed to put together a concentrated push down the stretch. They are subpar 4-5-1 in their last ten games, underscored by a loss in their last lap around the league. With very little to play for now, it remains to be seen how much of an effort they’ll put forward in this game.

The NY Islanders, by contrast, are in the race for a playoffs wildcard. As it is, they are holding the top spot for the postseason playing card with a 38-24-9 mark and 85 points. However, they’ve still all to play for with challenges coming from Philadelphia and Detroit. The concerning bit for the Islanders is recent form that is a woeful 4-4-2 in their last ten games, highlighted by a four-game losing streak with losses to Pittsburgh, Nashville and Dallas (all on the road), and, most recently, a loss to the Flyers at home. The pressure is on the Islanders in no uncertain terms and they’ll be looking to snap that negative trend with home-ice advantage in tonight’s date with the Senators.

The fact that the Senators have little to play for plays right into their hands, a consequence they should capitalise on. As such, the Islanders are trading as the firm favorites on the NHL odds board at -175 to -185 or thereabouts depending on your sportsbook of choice. Of course, the price belies their poor form of late, but they are still worth the tickle on your NHL picks to come through in what is a must-win game.

Boston Bruins vs. NY Rangers
The Boston Bruins and NY Rangers set up an intriguing clash on tonight’s NHL betting menu. The Rangers are coming off a much needed win over the Florida Panthers, winning 4-2 at home and coming through on our NHL picks as the home favorites in money line markets. The win snaps a two-game losing streak that wrapped up a three-game road stretch in California on a 1-2 SU mark.

At home, the Rangers are a solid 24-8-3 on the season. Predictably, the market corners the game in their camp with NHL odds ranging from -120 to -130 depending on the choice sportsbook. Indeed, the Rangers will be looking to continue on the largely rich vein of form at Madison Square Garden, and they have every reason to be optimistic about their chances. They are 1-1 against the Bruins this season, having bounced back from a 4-3 loss at Boston in November to win the most recent encounter at Madison 2-1 in January.

Boston Bruins won’t be pushovers though, despite a three-game losing streak ahead of this highly anticipated clash. They’ve lost three straight on the road, but all three came to the Californian triplet that are giving many sides headaches out west. Fact is the Bruins are a solid 23-10-3 on the road this term, boasting a better record on the road than at home and, therefore, bookies send the Bruins into this game as the notional underdogs, anywhere from +105 to +115 on the NHL odds board.

For our money, while we do appreciate the Bruins are a legitimate threat on the road, the Ranges are simply better and nowhere more so than at home. Take the Rangers on your NHL picks to win tonight.
