Time to gear up again for some NHL picks. Sportsbooks have given out their NHL odds for Tuesday and definitely prefer we have eight choices to narrow our picks down to.

Ended the week with a winning record, but lost on the juice for our first losing week of the season against the NHL odds. However, this hockey handicapper is excited to get going again this week having won nine of last 12. Time to uncover more winners.

Boston Quells San Jose at Home
Wagerweb.ag sent out Boston (8-8 SU) as -130 opening favorites, which is rather pedestrian and justifiable. The Bruins won for only the second time in eight tries at TD Garden on Saturday over Detroit, while San Jose (9-8 SU) has preferred being on the road with sharp 6-3 record.

When seeking winning information for NHL picks, you have to spend a lot of time researching and develop ability to understand context. This does not mean you always get it right, but reading and watching video on Boston players after 3-1 triumph over the Red Wings, there was a sense of relief to finally win another home game and every Boston players said in their own way, that win has to be building block with three more contests at home up next. Though the Bruins have scuffled at home, center David Krejci has not with 10 of his team-leading 18 points coming in Bean-Town.

San Jose have won the first two legs of this six-game road trip and they will give the B's all they can handle, but the Sharks are 3-13 playing their third road game in five days the last two seasons.

NHL Pick: Bruins -125 at 5Dimes

Colorado's Defense Helps them Slide by Toronto
The Avalanche (7-10 SU) and Maple Leafs matchup is about goaltending. Colorado's top netminder Semyon Varlamov in on injured reserve with a groin problem. This has to this juncture been a blessing in disguise for the Avs with Reto Berra coming off the bench. Berra has been in net during Colorado's current three-game winning streak, surrendered a grand total of three goals. This is not fluky either for the confident puck-stopper, whose 1.50 goals against average is the best in the league for anyone goalie with eight appearances.

Toronto (5-13 SU) had three-game winning streak snapped at the New York Rangers 4-3 and will go back to goalie James Reimer, who is the only winning goaltender on the roster at 5-5 SU, with a 2.30 GAA.

Colorado began as a modest -115 road favorite and has since moved to a Pick. My preference is the road squad who has won four of five in enemy territory and knowing the Leafs are 0-9 against a starting goalie who saves 91.5 percent or more of shots this season.

NHL Pick: Avalanche +100 at Pinnacle

Minnesota Takes Advantage of Pittsburgh Lack of Offense
It has been an odd way to start the year for the Penguins. Pittsburgh (10-7 SU) began 0-3, then reeled off nine wins in 10 contests, thanks to their defense. Through this all, the Penguins offense has remained amazingly stagnant. With the defense not quite as stellar recently, the Pens have lost three of four with 25th ranked offense.

This led to a players-only meeting, which normally does not deliver positive results after 4-0 shutout setback to New Jersey on Saturday.

Minnesota (10-6 SU) will look to take advantage of frustrated opponent. The Wild's offense was supposed to tank without leading scorer Zach Parise. But Minnesota players instead of talking figured out what was necessary and have all chipped in and are 3-0-1 in his absence, which should be a couple more games with sprained MCL for Parise.

Fellow hockey bettors are thinking the same thing I am and lowered the Penguins from -135 to -115 and Minnesota has won six of nine in the Steel City. Here is the clincher, the Wild is on 16-2 roll versus teams scoring 2.4 or fewer goals game.

NHL Pick: Wild -105 at Bookmaker
